Event Video Lighting Kit Checklist

Flash gives a brief burst of light for still photos. Continuous light lets you see the light as you work and works for video. If you use both, check that they do not fight each other in the shot.

Before you leave for the event

Use this event video lighting kit checklist while you pack, then run through it at the venue. Tick an item when it is in the bag or the plan is agreed. Skip gear you do not need. Use the extra-item box for kit you rent or borrow. Print the list if you want a paper copy beside your bag.

Build the setup before you leave home. Fit each light to its stand, add the diffusion and plug in the power. Record a short clip at the camera settings you plan to use. Watch it back for flicker and skin colour. A light that looks fine to your eyes can still need a different setting for the shot.

At the venue, ask before you move a light or run a cable. Check where guests will walk when the room is full. Keep exits clear, and agree where you can put your stands. Talk through flash timing with the other shooter before the ceremony or speeches start.

For help choosing the lights, read our portable video lights guide. If your kit uses larger external packs, our V-mount battery guide covers what to check before you pick a pack.
