We list’em, you pick’em.
Oceans
Narration: Pierce Brosnan
Director: Jacques Perrin, and Jacques Cluzaud
Genre: Documentary
Running Time: 84 min
Synopsis: An ecological drama/documentary, filmed throughout the globe. Part thriller, part meditation on the vanishing wonders of the sub-aquatic world.
What We Think: A must see, especially for documentary buffs or anyone who wants to watch something educational that also happens to look gorgeous on big screen. This is our pick for the weekend.
The Devil’s Tomb
Starring: Cuba Gooding Jr., Ray Winstone, Ron Perlman, and Taryn Manning
Director: Jason Connery
Genre: Horror, Action, Thriller
Running Time: 90 Min
Synopsis: An elite group of soldiers, on a covert mission to retrieve a scientist from an underground lab, encounter an ancient evil in the facility.
What We Think: This looks like one of those B-horror movie that has a big name cast. If that is your thing, then you might enjoy it. Otherwise, stay away.
Fireflies in The Garden
Starring: Ryan Reynolds, Willem Dafoe, Emily Watson, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Julia Roberts
Director: Dennis Lee
Genre: Drama
Running Time: 99 Min.
Synopsis: The semi-autobiographical story centers on the complexities of love and commitment in a family torn apart when faced by an unexpected tragedy.
What We Think: The critical consensus is that this is a dull, tedious and predictable melodrama. Still the cast is so good, that we think mature audiences might just appreciate it.
Giallo
Starring: Adrien Brody, Emmanuelle Seigner, Elsa Pataky, and Robert Miano
Director: Dario Argento
Genre: Horror
Running Time: 92 min
Synopsis: In Italy, a woman fears her sister may have been kidnapped. Inspector Enzo Avolfi fears it’s worse. They team up to rescue her from a sadistic killer known only as Yellow.
What We Think: Perhaps because it is directed by legendary horror maestro Dario Argento, or that it features an Italian setting, or the trailers makes it look like a cheesy B-movie from a different era, or the poster looks so cool, we’re not sure why, but we are definitely intrigued.
El Hekaya Feha Mena
Starring: Essaf, Boshra, Lotfy Labib, and Aida Riad
Director: Olfat Osman
Genre: Comedy, Romance
Running Time: 84 min
Synopsis: A young man dreams of taking up Economics and Political Science in order to become a politician. But his family’s economic status hinders his dreams. One day his world is turned upside down when a feisty girl named Mena enters his life.
What We Think: It is one of those low budget Arabic films that aims to be a crowd pleaser but fails. It has no real stars and the trailer makes it look more like a collection of sketches than a real film. If you are not one of the target audience, then we’d advise you to avoid it.
