Opening This Weekend at Dubai Cinemas (10th of June 2010)

We list’em, you pick’em

The A-Team

Starring: Liam Neeson, Bradley Cooper, Sharlto Copley, Quinton ‘Rampage’ Jackson, and Jessica Biel
Director: Joe Carnahan
Genre: Action, Adventure
Running Time: 117 min

Synopsis: A group of Iraq War veterans looks to clear their name with the U.S. military, who suspect the four men of committing a crime for which they were framed.

What We Think: This film is the epitome of silly summer films. It is a mindless action film adapted from a very popular cheesy (dare we say it, terrible?) 80′s TV series. Keeping that in mind, you should be able to enjoy the ride, but don’t ask for much more.

The Joneses

Starring: Demi Moore, David Duchovny, Amber Heard, and Ben Hollingsworth
Director: Genre: Drama
Running Time: 96 min

Synopsis: A seemingly perfect family moves into a suburban neighborhood, but when it comes to the truth about why they’re living there, they don’t exactly come clean with their neighbors.

What We Think: This is a small independent film from a first time director but featuring two big name leads. The film received decent reviews from critics, so if you happen to be looking for an alternative to the likes of The A-Team, then this film shouldn’t be a bad choice .

She’s Out of My League

Starring: Jay Baruchel, Alice Eve, and Mike Vogel
Director: Jim Field Smith
Genre: Comedy, Romance
Running Time: 104 min

Synopsis: An average Joe meets the perfect woman, but his lack of confidence and the influence of his friends and family begin to pick away at the relationship.

What We Think: Despite having Jay Baruchel as the lead, whom we really liked in Tropic Thunder, there is no way we can recommend this. Also, expect the scissors of UAE censors to have a field day chopping off the more crude bits.

The Haunting in Connecticut

Starring: Virginia Madsen, Martin Donovan, Kyle Gallner, and Elias Koteas
Director: Peter Cornwell
Genre: Horror
Running Time: 92 min

Synopsis: After a family is forced to relocate for their son’s health, they begin experiencing supernatural behavior in their new home, which turns out to be a former mortuary.

What We Think: Though it has two decent lead actors (Madsen and Donovan), it was dismissed by the majority of critics for having too many horror clichés, and really, what’s up with the awful  generic title? Being 2009 film, so it will probably show up on TV pretty soon, which is why we don’t think it worth a watch on the big screen.
