The Lost Room
Sci Fi Channel

The premise is excellent - a mystical motel room that exists only in a parallel dimension and can only be accessed using a special key; a key which can open almost any door in the world. On top of that, the room contains roughly a hundred seemingly ordinary objects like a comb, a ball point pen, a jacket, a pair of eye glasses, etc. all of which have special powers in the real world. For example, the comb can stop time for 10 seconds, the eye glasses can stop combustion, the pen can cause spontaneous burning, and so on. So when Detective Joe Miller's (Six Feet Under's Peter Krause) daughter (Elle Fanning, Dakota's kid sister) gets lost in the room ('cos it 'resets' every time the door is opened), its a race against time to find her and bring her back using a combination of the room's 'objects'. Throw in a truck load of scrupulous characters who will do anything to get their hands on the objects and you've got a series that is fast paced (I don't know where 4.5 hours went!) and has more twists than a box full of Cadbury's Curly Wurly chocolate bars.

But where the show fails is in its obvious low budget. Shot on what looks like DV, it lacks the 'organic' feel of other fantasy shows like Carnivale for example. But once you're hooked, you wont notice it. RECOMMENDED.

Sounds excellent, have been looking for a sci-fi show with a Twilighty feel, and this seems it.

Thanks for the recommendation.

I remember watching TOS, and have fond memories of it, because it was fun having them go to a new world everytime. One of the reasons I havent paid much attention to TNG, is because they spend a lot of time on the damn spaceship! Its catastrophic.
