The laptops I've used, and did trouble shooting for:

1) IBM - rocks. It's still being sold under this name, and even though Lenovo manufactures them, for some weird reason, some are still called IBM, and don't appear as flimsy as the models under the Lenovo brand name. Been using one. Go for the T-series, not the R. And btw, when dropped, they really DO work afterwards.

2) Sony Vaio - don't ever buy it, coz' it's all design, not functionality.

3) Fujitu Siemens - trash, flimsy.
My boss makes a millions bucks a minute and uses a Fujitsu-Siemens. Cheapo, eh?

Also, something about Ozzy's post makes me go "hey, this guy is just trash talking." I mean Vaio is all design and not functionality? May be its just me!

You don't HAVE to go with what I've said...maybe I just got unlucky and had bad experiences with the wrong laptops for more than 3 years while in Tech Support.

Vaio is pretty expensive...is the point I wanted to prove. Using the same amount, you could go for something WAY better, albeit less flashy.

And I still stick with my stand on Fujisu-Siemens!

5) HP - flush the Pavilion. The business notebook (nc and nx series) is decent.

I have a HP Pavilion for 2 years now (15.4'') with a harmon/kardon design AMD Athlon processor, 797 MHz - and no complaints here. Haven't done video editing though. As I'm watching DVDs on the notebook when I've no access to the stand-alone player I wouldn't go for a smaller screen then 15.4''.
