Just finished the first season, and Gawd is it good. I'm glad I picked it as Season 2 started so I can dive straight into it.
Michael C Hall
is just perfect as Dexter. One of the best TV leads since
Duchovny
himself.

I'm reviving this topic since I have only now just started watching it. About halfway through season 1 now. Totally addicted. Michael C. Hall is incredible. Love the deadpan voiceover. Best title sequence in ages.

The title sequence really is probably one of THE best ever. And Michael C. Hall is great in the role.

This definitely is one of the best shows right now along with "Mad Men"..... I was on a marathon watching Season 1, 2 and 3... It does slow down a bit mid way through Season 2 but picks up very well in Season 3 with Jimmy Smits guest starring. I undertand Season 4 is the best yet...

Just wrapped up S1 a few minutes ago. Brilliant show. I agree with you, mad -- the finale's closing scene was a stroke of genius. I'll catch up with you guys in S2's thread.
As one of the cheerers' sign said in that last scene, "Dexter... I'm your #1 fan!"

I am glad you loved it this much. Because it's amazing, and it's solely the
Michael C. Hall
show, because for me the show halts whenever any side character gets in the way, and lets face it, his coworkers and his family members are different range of cannoning. Anyway, the show loses some steam in season 3, but season 4 is kind of amazing with
John Lithgow
playing the Trinity Killer, Dexter's best rival ever, and a finale that's even better than season 1's. Also season 5 is really good so far, so keep watching.

I wanted to mention this earlier. The supporting cast are all excellent. Jennifer Carpenter stands out as Dexter's foster sister, and Eric King perfectly plays Doakes as the hotheaded, constantly pissed off cop and number one Dexter sceptic. My favourite, however, is James Remar, who does a fantastic job in the flashbacks as Dexter's foster father.

You stopped watching because of a one-season character that was
supposed
to be hated? What kind of TV series watching standards do you follow, exactly?

I don't watch TV shows at all.
Dexter, S1
is one of only two that I completed a season of since
X-Files
back in the 90s (the other is
Californication
, and I didn't bother with S2 of that). Unless a series is good throughout the season, as
Dexter
was in Season 1, I'm put off very easily.
Oh, and
Pushing Daisies
, which stopped before Season 1 ended, didn't check if they ever continued it.
