Which one would you recommend ?

The Xbox 360 or the PS3

Considering both are more then just mere consoles...

Or would you take the high road and wait for the Nintendo Wii ?

This is a great thread, I've been contemplating buying myself (because Santa doesn't exist and nobody else gives a shit) a console this X'mas.

I heard the Xbox 360 got voted #1 in a recent UK consumer survey.

As Fizz pointed out, PS3 would be ideal because it'll be bundled with a blu-ray drive. But I may need to start prostituting myself again for it'll be tres expensive.

What are people's thoughts on the Xbox 360?

I currently own a PS2 and im hooked on to it. I think I will trade this one for the new PS3 when it comes out, but I'll wait for a while till the prices come off. I got this PS2 from the US 4 years back for only $119.99 after rebate. The price in Dubai is still expensive compared to 4 years earlier.

Have heard good things about the Xbox 360 but a Sony is a Sony. I have never had any problems with my PS2.

A console is only as good as the software released for it. One could argue the opposite but I'm not listening, so don't bother.

Personally, I'm over the whole Sony is a Sony thing. Gimme good games and I would even buy a pimped-up Atari.

Bingo! But you have to consider that the Xbox360 / PS3 are supposed to be more then just consoles. They are supposed to be media centers / mp3 players / movie players etc. And the whole xbox360 scene is more to do with online play then with console play. Considering that hasnt actually caught on in the UAE, you might want to think...and think hard about the PS3. Not without its share of problems, the cell chip apparently is facing manufacturing faults / delays. which could transilate to less supply = Costly cnsoles for a while. The release date has already been pushed back for it, and that would only mean that the Xbox wil have more of a lead. Mind you, MS is trying to position itself to release Halo3 at the same time as the PS3. And not to mention the xBoy rumours.
But Nintendo's new console is supposed to be pretty good. News about it is stirring up the gaming world and people are getting uber excited! imagine if that hit the shelves too along with PS3. Ps3 will have alot of catching up to do. Lets c.
As for me, i'd prefer tol wait another year after release and then decide between these 3. By then they should have a good enough game base.

well.....my logic is that for PC games, hardware always chases software. Theres some game out there that beats the crapp out of most graphic cards and this calls for an update, but for consoles, its the other way around. The games are designed to play on console hardware...so regardless of what u have, u can get games for a longer duration then on a PC requiring an upgrade. Plus the complications for a game not working / lag / frames being dropped.....thats not heard of in console world
BTW : I dont own a console .....yet last one i had was the mega drive2...its still lying around somewhere !

AK: Santa was kind enough this year and got me an Xbox 360. I am loving it. Go for it.
And if you have an HDTV, you will love the graphics. Be sure you buy the Premium Edition.

Yup, got a 32" LCD TV with HDMI last week. Right now, the Xbox looks good. List some of your fave game titles when you have a moment.

If you have an XBox, go for Halo 2...and then think about the rest of the games. I was about to recommend Star Wars Episode 3 and Batman Begins and NFS Most Wanted...interested?

I think the main reason I'll go for a PS over an XBox any day would be coz' of Tekken alone.
