I am getting annoyed by having movies ruined for me, so I am starting this thread, as a sort of guide for all of us. The way it will work is that if you see any movie in the cinema, or see any movie in DVD/KFF that you know is currently out in Dubai cinema, please rate & commet it, based on its censorship.

The ratings will be as follows:

5/5: Nothing cut. You'll get the same experience from the cinema or the uncut version.
4/5: Slight cuts, but hardly noticable, or in any way affects the viewing pleasure.
3/5: Some cuts are there, but ultimately it does not hurt the movie that much. You can view the movie, if you don't care that much about it either way.
2/5: Bad idea to watch it. Significient cuts.
1/5: Don't. The cuts ruin the movie.
0/5: What movie?

Perfume: The Story of a Murderer

1/5

Don't watch this in the big screen in Dubai. You'll understand the plot, but it will be ruined by constant, frequent cuts, that jolt you, because of the abrupt frame changes, dialogue cuts, and soundtrack jumping. Worse still, the movie is about human beauty and visuals are very important, so while the director puts a lot of emphasis on the female body, we dont see it.

Interesting idea for a thread. Although I'd consider revising the title slightly to "Movie Censorship in Dubai," to make it more specific.

Mad...seems to me you don't go to the cinema too often. I've become accustomed to this kind of erratic censorship, in fact I was almost expecting it in Perfume (if you've seen the R-rater international trailer for the film, you know it has heavy nudity). It's a good thing no one bothered to watch something like Babel during regular screenings, because that might have been missing an entire (significant) section from the final act. DIFF is actually more welcome because of their non-censorship stand.

Excellent Idea Mad...

Thanks for the heads up on Perfume, I was planning to go see it over the weekend after the good reviews from Fizz. Now I have changed my mind.

I missed Babel during DIFF and because of the censor issues I dint bother with going to the cinema either. I still have to watch that sob fest.

FYI..Babel was completely uncensored during its DIFF screenings. This even resulted in hilarious warnings issued by the pretty ushers personally to every viewer entering the screening "Sir, we need to warn you...this film contains explicit nudity."

Regardless of the censorship, it would be a mistake to not see "Perfume" on the big screen. It's a film of grotesque beauty, with Tykwer really cranking up the visual-O-meter.

You know, its funny; I kinda invite the censoring of that hilarious sex scene between Leonidas and Gorgo in "300." I mean I love perky tits as much as the next guy, but this one is so painfully bad that anyone with even two working brain cells will be glad for its removal.

The only part that would be affected would be the Oracle seen. The sex scene SHOULD be cut, regardless of cencorship,
