Robin Hood (Scott, 2010)

And just as Capt. was pimping "Sleeper Cell" in the TV Talk show...
I think we're ready for another Robin Hood film, and this reworking of the concept is very clever.
Quote from: Faraci, CHUD
Nothing says modern America like casting Robin Hood as the bad guy. After all, he is stealing, right? This is Bush’s America
, and you only are allowed to steal if you’re a higher up in a political party, not if you’re just some ponce running around in Sherwood Schwartz Forest. So
Ethan Reiff and Cyrus Voris, the creators of Sleeper Cell, Showtime’s now-cancelled look at the inner-workings of a band of evil Muslims, have written a script for a movie where the Sheriff of Nottingham – usually the baddie in any Robin Hood movie – is actually the hero.
And in a display of excellent timing – their show was just cancelled last week – Russell Crowe read, loved and signed on to the script, getting 20 million dollars* (supposedly) to play the Sheriff of Nottingham. That means they have the makings of an honest to God go picture. The script might be very, very good, as it was the subject of a massive bidding war between Universal, Warner Bros and New Line, with Dreamworks and Columbia supposedly looking to get in on the action. In the end Universal got the picture, which will be produced through Imagine Entertainment.
Next stop: a director. The Hollywood Reporter says that Ridley “I’ll get attached to anything, and twice if Russell Crowe is involved” Scott, Bryan “Look, that Superman sequel isn’t really happening” Singer and Sam “Do you really believe I’m doing The Hobbit?” Raimi have shown interest.

If it were all in the script, why make the film?

Bring on another
Payback.

Brian Helgeland
has been brought on to rewrite director Ridley Scott's reimagining of the Robin Hood classic 'Nottingham'.
The Oscar winner who adapated Mystic River and L.A. Confidential for the big screen is reteamed with his Confidential star Russell Crowe, who will play the classic Robin Hood villian the Sheriff of Nottingham.
The twist of the film? Instead of being the king's lackey the Sheriff of Nottingham will be played as more of a noble lawman who is on the hunt for the shadier Robin Hood thief who spends his nights in the Sherwood Forest.
The film also teams Scott and Crowe again who worked recently together on A Good Year but better known for the 2000 film Gladiator.

Apparently, this movie has changed title, and direction of story too. It's just going to be a retelling of the Robin Hood tale. Why again? No idea... But since
Ridley Scott
is directing, I'm still interested. Also, the cast looks pretty good:
Russell Crowe
as Robin Hood / Sheriff of Nottingham (Both, how?)
Kevin Durand
as Little John
Cate Blanchett
as Maid Marian
Mark Strong
as Sir Godfrey
...and the latest is that
William Hurt
has joined it too.
Synopsis: The story of an archer in the army of Richard Coeur de Lion who fights against the Norman invaders and becomes the legendary hero known as Robin Hood.

Although Russel crow is a factor in my decision, but for me if Cate Blanchett is in it, I will have to watch. Blanchett is the best actress alive!

oh...so the new Robin Hood is thin, wears boots and has short hair? how gay.the thing the bugs me the most about this is that do we really need another Robin Hood movie? i mean really? is Robin Hood the only interesting figure we can make movies about?
and i bet everyone would be like "oh this is the best Robin Hood movie ever made" which really doesn't say much.

By the time you get to be 25, you've seen 3,000. You've seen every permutation of every dramatic arc. And when somebody takes that and stands it on its head, that can be exciting."

Well...it's kinda like having many Beowulf movies. They're trying to make a 'better' Robin Hood, who knows, they might actually pull it off...successfully.

"Apparently everything you'll be witnessing in Ridley Scott's Robin Hood -- the hairstyles, the music and the aesthetics -- will make it play like an unofficial sequel to Gladiator. This is no accident. It's a commercial mandate and was part of the scripting delay. Expect a lot of mano y mano duels."
hehe i wouldn't be surprised if it's true.

As much as I am a supporter of
Ridley Scott
, and that this has his favorite actor in their best genre together, the trailer looks old and tired. Except for that last closing shot.

They should have put the following words in that
Robin Hood
poster:
"My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius, commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions, loyal servant to the true emperor, Marcus Aurelius. Father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife. And I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next."
