Thats total BS. They were forced by the Ministry of Economy to lower the prices down. If they would hear what the customers have to say they should have slashed it to 25 dhs earlier and not increased it to 35. Fucking Corporates.

I will read "pressure from the customers" as lack of customers.
I was at the movies over the weekend. Note I use the singular for there was hardly anybody else there!
kaytee, the Economy ministry's intervention is fact?

Kaytee is right.
The Ministry did intervene...in a BIG way. They were basically knocking at the door of cinema owners with copies of all the laws that were broken by the price hike. The 'customer' angle is just to save face.

The sad part is the Ministry of Economy is also playing safe. If they were so worried about the economy they should have stopped the Real Estate sector first. A Dhs 5 increase is nothing compared to an increase of Dhs 25k.

Yes I was shocked that ticket prices went down to AED 30 so quickly!
If only rents and school fees would respond so quickly!

Well, the people in the Ministry of Economy don't pay rent, and their kids probably get free schooling.
But they all pay for movies!

sorry to revive such an old thread.
as far as i know, some cinema chains in the UK have unlimited movies card for about 11 pounds a month or so,which is great! i'm not sure if that's available too in the US but sure there are some offers in there.not to mention,a lot of free screenings.
i don't understand why we don't have similar offers here in the gulf.we don't have any offers at all.there's no appreciation for the frequent moviegoer.
plus, we need an art house theater that plays old movies and classics,i think it would be very successful.

By the time you get to be 25, you've seen 3,000. You've seen every permutation of every dramatic arc. And when somebody takes that and stands it on its head, that can be exciting."

I love old thread revivals, if there's a good reason, so kudos.

Nope, no such deal that I am aware of in the US. However, there are good opportunities for reduced ticket prices such as matinees (such as morning shows on weekend) when the ticket prices are slashed by 50%. That is when I watch movies on the big screen. In addition, seniors and students get a fixed discounts on the tickets.

The UAE/ Bahrain market is not big enough to support a significant niche interested in art films, so this will not work, in my opinion. One-offs like the Dubai Film Festival are supported by a tremendous PR machine and the psychological incentive of 'attending a film fest festival.'

i disagree.i dunno what's it like exactly in the UAE but here in Bahrain, things have changed a lot in the last 2 years.i would go to watch a small independent film during mid week and be surprised to see a packed theater.plus, the market in Bahrain covers both Bahrain and Saudi.
i would say if there was a small art house theater that plays black & white, classics and foreign film it would be VERY successful.
