In all seriouness, Dubai traffic is going to cause me to die 20 years earlier, because of how stressful it is. Its worse, because I'm in sales, so all my day is sitting in the car, listening to BBC World.

I pretty much know about all the news in the world by now. Did you know there is an election in Netherlands? That the German female prime minister's approval rating is falling?

So do I on my drive to and back from work. Although it has an obvious European slant it's a brilliant radio service. I recommend it to everyone here with even a modicum of interest in world affairs and social culture. 87.9FM, you get the English language beam between 9am to 6pm and from there on out over to our Arabic speaking brethren.

I wish it was full time. It really is brilliant, and I'm so in love with their radio-stories. Thats something I had never grown up on, and it surprised me to see how fun it still was.

That's my (and many others) work hours, the only time I can't listen to the radio Sad
They should have longer services.

Hey guys... I am finally back from my travels... and was looking at which thread to start posting... this one seems appropriate...

My family has been in Dubai for the past 55 years, doing business with this region since the past 80 years... This should be home then, should it not? Sadly its a home which I both resent and miss... When I am here, I look for every opportunity to travel to get a break from the issues that plague us here... When I go abroad I see the same issues, but what I dont see here is freedom...

After years of lamenting, I came to the conclusion that if I am not going to do anything concrete to get me out of here, then I wont say anything negative... So right now I am holding all comments, but I will say one thing, that there are harsher times ahead, with lacklustre policies awaiting, which will not benefit anyone... even the rich... As Dubai gets more about statistics and 'the biggest tallest largest' etc., it looses all that was dear to its forefathers, a safe, harmonial and economic atmosphere... The price of growth you say? I agree... But anything that grows so fast, so soon, is bound to spin out of control... so all I can say is enjoy your time here, but keep your options open and have a back up plan... and keep in mind this is coming from a person who has such a strong link with this country, which, no doubt, has given us a lot... pity that it cant give security alongside all its other attributes...

Nice post Sandeep. Speaking of harmony...Oman! Or Ras Al Khaimah or something, anything...Dubai reeks of booze and rubber and Sharjah's way too congested to live in.

Quote from: AME Info
Dubai free zones, VoIP ban

VoIP calls will be blocked from Dubai’s free zones from next month following the latest ruling by the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, reported Gulf News. du, which runs services in the free zones, said the decision to bar VoIP calls will affects all calls from PCs to fixed or mobile phones via the Internet. Last November, it was rumoured the TRA would actually lift its ban on the technology.

Actually old Dubai was far better... the new Dubai is a warped reflection of the old one... like seeing yourself in dirty water...
