[Dubai] TRA to censor internet in the free zones
«

OK, guys, the Telecom Regulatory Authority (TRA) has thrown down the gauntlet. No more proxy-free internet in DIC, DMC, KV and the neighbouring estates such as The Greens, Dubai Marina, etc.
Main reason cited is ‘pornography.’ I predict the sex crime and social depravity rate should drop 100% after this change is implemented. Thank god for TRA: men and women can all be safe again!
Where does that leave legitimate enterprises like CNN, Reuters, BBC based out of DMC? I’m sure there’ll be some Shk Mo’ mandated exception for them. Everyone else, the little people get the throbbing Emirati shaft! Aaaahhhh…I just came…

Qatar and bahrain are developing countries that are changing and will be different countries in the next 6-8 years BUT there's NO way they will be as good as Dubai, not in a million years.cos simply the minds who built and changed Dubai in 3-5 years and turned it into heaven are not living there.

'Heaven' and 'Dubai' are not permitted in the same sentence. Sounds better if you use 'Harlem'.

Who the FRACK told you Dubai is HEAVEN. Well if you compare it to Saudi Arabia, even the slums of India can be considered Heaven.
But trust me when i say this, only people who are actually living in Dubai know the real truth about it. All this media facade and hype is not real. Even a blind man can see that. Dubai has and will destroy so many families that you will lose count. I know of so many people who have had to send their parents, wife, kids back home because they could not afford it any more. What was even worst was the monopolistic government saying bachelors living together in an apartment is illegal. The landlords were not willing to rent the apartments to these bachelors. Dubai is being built to support the higher class income group, they are forgetting that the soul and the backbone of Dubai is the lower and the middle class income group. Hell even the middle class has moved to the lower class coz of the Inflation.
It is the city where the RICH get RICHER and the POOR get POORER. If you got the money then you will love Dubai's fake lifestyle, but if you dont have it you will curse it just like we all do.

ha ha, that's a brilliant post from kaytee.
animatedude, stop buying into the fancy media campaigns and old wives tales you've been hearing. Beneath the pretty plastic-fantastic exterior lies a wasteland of...OK, this record has been played to death. Just read kaytee's post again and you'll understand.
I want to remind our readers again that we are NOT a bunch of depraved, cyncial and prejudiced expat homos. We don't like lashing out on Dubai which has, frankly, provided us a better place to sustain ourselves and families than our home countries. That needs to be understood. We complain not because it gives us hardons but because it fucking hurts having the merciless Emirati dick up our asses with all the rising cost-of-living expenses. Over 35 years in the country for my family we still are not allowed to apply for nationalisation. Infact no one is. Unless expats are given the right to become citizens (not saying, after all this, we want to anymore) the UAE will be plagued by long-term economic and social problems.
P.S. That last paragraph may have revealed my strong latent homosexuality.

lol, i understand where you guys comin' from.iam a tourist and you guys work there.it's different but i'll try to reply what you guys said in points:
1-i don't need the media to tell me what to think, i can judge for myself.i know what Dubai was in the early 90's,late 90's and now.
2-because some families can't afford it anymore, that doesn't mean Dubai is bad.it means Dubai is growing.can't afford it? don't work there.hence, that's why i stopped thinking of moving to Dubai cos i don't think i'll afford it.
3-"they are forgetting that the soul and the backbone of Dubai is the lower and the middle class income group" that's a cliche.any guy from the working class in any country would say that about his country.
4-"It is the city where the RICH get RICHER and the POOR get POORER" so.fuckin'.true. get down with the program or move.
5-Dubai is heaven compared to any country in the middle east.
6-i don't think any country in any given time in history improved over a short period of time like Dubai
7-Dubai proved to me and the whole arab world that you can turn your country upside down in a short period of time and benefit from it IF you stop being a scumbag narrow-minded stupid asshole and open your country to ALL investers/workers form the whole world.
i would go on and on and on about Dubai but yeah it's very understandable what are you guys saying, you work there, you know better.

I seriously disagree with the above...because Dubai WAS built on the backbone of expatriates who form the middle and lower class back in the mid to late 70's and still do. The nationals do not (which doesn't mean there are poor locals, there are, but they can avail gov help).
Proof of this is the fact that no local (despite being able bodied yet poor) is ever employed as a labourer/waiter etc.

Oh animatedude, dont get me started, you are trying to open a can of worms here buddy.
I am born here in Dubai and have seen Dubai grow with my own eyes. From sand to skyscrapers. I love Dubai to such regard that I call Dubai as home and not India. Thus even harder for people like me to leave home.
4-"It is the city where the RICH get RICHER and the POOR get POORER" so.fuckin'.true.
get down with the program or move.
That is the exact attitude of the ruling family here. I would like to see the UAE nationals driving taxis or picking up garbage from the streets or for that matter even being accountants or doing hamali. They are not cut for it, that is why you need a system of the poor to survive not kick them out of the country.
IF you stop being a scumbag narrow-minded stupid asshole and open your country to ALL investers/workers form the whole world.
Then why is the telecom industry still regulated? Why is the internet still regulated? Then why are people not given national status even after being born on their land? Why did Dubai Airport or Emirates restrict Malaysian Airlines from flying direct to New York from Dubai? Why does an UAE national have to be a 51% stake holder in every business you do? Why are people above the age of 60 not given entry into Dubai? The list is never ending, we have a big brother watching our every move and one wrong turn will have you deported.
3-"they are forgetting that the soul and the backbone of Dubai is the lower and the middle class income group" that's a cliche.any guy from the working class in any country would say that about his country.
It is a cliche, but it is also the truth.
I would go on and on too, but there is no point complaining. I agree I love Dubai but what is sad is the fact that Dubai is ruining the basic foundation that it was built on. The current rulers are visionaries there is no doubt about it, but they have no sense of respect for values created by there forefathers.
Anyone with any knowledge of economics or even history (Hong Kong) for that matter will know that such a rapid growth in such a short time always causes problems in the long term. The economy can't sustain such a rapid growth. The gap between the rich and the poor keeps widening thus ending in a bubble burst.
Any country to function properly needs a stable economic system which unfortunately Dubai clearly lacks.

There's no point really in saying anything. I'm tired of pointing this out to people 'cos at the end of the day, it wont change a thing. But for the last time, here goes:
All of Dubai's 'growth' in the last 6 years has been possible thanks to the exploitation of both skilled and unskilled South Asian labor. Period.
Its modern day slavery. Dubai has a perfumed reality. At the core of this bubble, there is something very ugly brewing. Eventually, the odds will catch up. Nature needs to balance itself out. Thats just the way it is.
"Probability is like gravity. You cant run away from gravity."
K-town sucks. But at the same time, I'm glad I'm not in Dubai anymore.
On a related note, did you know that in the 'Kingdom of Saudi Arabia', slavery was legal until the 1940's! The Arbian gulf constitutes some of the highest numbers of human rights violations in the world. Think about it.

An to accentuate what Captain says, Dubai fairs no better, despite being the heaven of the ME.

However, human rights officials from Dubai police dispute the US report and their published statistics. "We don't know where they get these statistics from because even we don't have them. In any case, if they have sources on the ground, why don't they help us identify the criminals and get them arrested?" asked Ayesha Ahmed Al Marri of the Dubai police human rights department.
This was too funny. How can see even say something like that is beyond my belief?
All I can tell her is meet me at York Hotel and you'll know where and how to identify them.
