For some reason, I've always liked Jason Lee. The last time I saw him, he was a supporting character on
Vanilla Sky as he was on Cameron Crowe's previous venture,
Almost Famous. He was (I think) the first guy to get killed off in Lawrence Kasdan's stinker
Dreamcatcher. I also thought he played some of the most memorable characters on all Kevin Smith films -
Mallrats,
Chasing Amy,
Dogma,
Jay & Silent Bob, etc.
Anyways, after watching the first episode, I greedily consumed 9 more in two evenings! Lee plays the title character , Earl J. Hickey, a red neck crook who after an accidental meeting with 'karma', is out to right all the wrongs he has committed during his life. Armed with a list of over 200 acts of theft, unkindness, cruelty, humiliation and so on, Earl is accompanied with his 'simple' minded brother Randy and super sexy Mexican motel maid Catalina, as he sets out to confront all the people and tasks on his list. Oh, and then there's Earl's smokin' hot trailer trash ex-wife Joy, played by Jamie Presley. Whoever thought she could act?!
The outtakes featured during the closing credits of selected episodes are hilarious and demonstrate Lee's natural comedic talents. I'm looking forward to completing all of
Season 1 by the end of the week!
