WARNING! SPOILERS AHEAD!

Mohit Suri, a director that made ZEHER and then KALYUG (a good film), comes up with a winner in WOH LAMHE which not only has a compelling TRUE story to tell, (its a chapter from Mahesh Bhatt's life), but it takes us on a journey of Late Actress Parveen Babi's sad life, and shed's light on why she ended up the way she did... Cry

Handling a story of a successful actress Sana (Kangana playing Parveen), a cocky confident and smart director Aditya (Shiny playing Bhatt), and the real woman behind the super star marks the beginning of the movie... It slowly unravels into how sad the life of the super star is, how people use her, how she is a walking endorsement/advertisement space, how her relationship suffers with her controlling and cheap boyfriend, how her mother doesnt understand her, but somehow in the midst of all this, how Kangana starts to trust and be-friend Shiny turns the story... Undecided

It moves on to her shedding all her layers and giving her true self as an artist and a person to Shiny... a weird kind of affair follows... where her love for him wins over his desire to simply use her to climb the ladder of success... As he warms to her, her mental state is revealed, where she is prescribed with "Paranoia Schizophrenia"... and the story of support that follows makes up the rest of the movie... The recurring character which is conjured up by Sana's character called 'Rani', is scary and takes the audience by surprise many times... This whole thread is played out so well, and handled so accurately that it impresses beyond expectations...

Kangana excells in a complex role again, after her first outing in GANGSTER which has demanded a wide spectrum of emotions... Her voice is a bit off though, and some expressions dont seem right, but on the whole, she does justice to a role which is very difficult to portray... Shiny is excellent in a role that gives him more depth and breadth to perform... This movie raises a lot of questions, everyone wants to know how true it is, is this what Parveen Babi suffered from, how documented is it... etc etc...

The movie has excellent visuals, songs, and a strong different story as its plusses... no major minuses, except that they weave Dubai city into Mumbai city trying to pass it off as Mumbai, which doesn't work... Watch it for good treatment and direction...

3/5

...and her debut in Gangster was powerful enough to win her accolades internationally! Kangana picked up the Best Actress trophy at the Asian Festival of 1st Films yesterday.

* The Asian Festival of 1st Films is Co-funded by the Singapore government and is in its second year. It aims to help debutante movie makers in Asia who are often hamstrung by small budgets and lack of interest from audiences.
