How I Met Your Mother (CBS)

HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER
is a comedy about Ted (Josh Radnor) and how he fell in love. It all starts when Ted's best friend, Marshall (Jason Segel), drops the bombshell that he's going to propose to his long-time girlfriend, Lily (Alyson Hannigan), a kindergarten teacher. At that moment, Ted realizes that he had better get a move on if he too hopes to find true love. Helping him in his quest is Barney (Neil Patrick Harris), a friend with endless, sometimes outrageous opinions, a penchant for suits and a foolproof way to meet women. When Ted meets Robin (Cobie Smulders), he's sure it's love at first sight, but destiny may have something else in store. The series is narrated through flashbacks from the future.
Well, the series was a lot better than i expected it to be, and was glued to it after the first 10 minutes itself. They've only done one season so far, and it's been done pretty well. Established actors include Buffy's "Willow" - Alyson Hannigan and Doogie Howser himself - Neil Patrick Harris, who's absolutely brilliant as a soul-less player.
i've got a DVD with the divx's of the first season for anybody in dubai who wants to watch.

Sounds like another stupid sitcom, and in some ways it is, but it also seems to be more fun than I thought.
It is about a guy (and his friends, who always hang out at a bar, etc, etc) who is looking for the right woman to get married to.
But the strength of the show is the guy's quirky friend (like all sitcoms) called Barney who is really funny (by the way, Barney is played by Doogie Howser).
Like this exchange (Ted, the main character, calls his ex-girlfriend from many years ago, and she hangs up)
Female Friend: Why did she hang up on you?
Ted: I don't know
Barney: Did you sleep with her sister?
Ted: No
Barney: Did you sleep with her mom?
Ted: No
Barney: I'm losing interest in your story.
Its not anything smart and groundbreaking like Arrested Development and The Office, but for a laugh-track, group of friends sitcom, it does fairly well.

I finished watching the first season. It is cheesy and campy, but surprisingly, it can also be very touching.

If it were all in the script, why make the film?

I watched the first season and though it was cheesy it did make me laugh. As mentioned by Mad before the hero of the show is Neil Patrick Harris as Barney. His one liners and quirky jokes are really funny and he could easily have a spin off of his character.

Sadly, none of the subsequent seasons match up to the first one. But I'm still watching... it's on 4 now.

How I Met Your Mother [Season 01-05]
(CBS, 2005-2009)
IMDB Link
The thing about sitcoms is that it is like a drug. Twenty-minutes, episodes whizz by you, the laugh-track helps to tell you where to laugh, brain engagement is kept at the minimum, and you watch them in your comforting bubble, as time passes by, and you are just lying there, watching episode after episode, your worries far from your mind, as time and fake laugh-track merges into one, into some sort of continuous illusionary world.
Ah, "How I Met Your Mother" is not a great comedy show, but it is an above average sitcom, when you compare it to the great ocean of shitcoms that are available for our viewing displeasures, it is somewhat likable. The biggest draw of this sitcom is Neil Patrick Harris as Barney, an over-confident, womanizer, and with NPH being a fantastic comedy actor (as evidenced by his "Harold and Kumar" appearances and his "Dr Horrible" film), he is able to bring something special to the show.
“Jesus waited three days to come back to life. It was perfect! If he had only waited one day, a lot of people wouldn't have even heard he died. They'd be all, "Hey Jesus, what up?" and Jesus would probably be like, "What up? I died yesterday!" and they'd be all, "Uh, you look pretty alive to me, dude..." and then Jesus would have to explain how he was resurrected, and how it was a miracle, and the dude'd be like "Uhh okay, whatever you say, bro..." And he's not gonna come back on a Saturday. Everybody's busy, doing chores, workin' the loom, trimmin' the beard, NO. He waited the perfect number of days, three. Plus it's Sunday, so everyone's in church already, and they're all in there like "Oh no, Jesus is dead", and then BAM! He bursts in the back door, runnin' up the aisle, everyone's totally psyched, and FYI, that's when he invented the high five. That's why we wait three days to call a woman, because that's how long Jesus wants us to wait.... True story.”

I didnt like Big Bang Theory that much, Kaytee, but I might get it again just for harmless sitcom timepass like this one. I like Community, Ayaa, but those shows are ACTUALLY GOOD, stuff like this is good to zone out and watch.
By the way, KT, for IT comedy, I'd take the British IT Crowd over Big Bang Theory.
