If you are looking for a feel good film of the year, look no further. Inspired by a true life story of a young 27 year old who gets diagnosed with a rare type of cancer and how he and his family and friends deal with it,
50/50
is charming, inspiring and cruel at the same time. Dealing with tragedy and comedy at the same time can be a real challenge by
Jonathan Levine
finds that perfect balance really well. He keeps his actors in check especially
Seth Rogen
who never goes overboard and gives a restrained performance playing the supporting yet always high friend.
Joseph Gordan Levitt
keeps showing us what he is made of by putting in another solid performance of a person who does not know how to react to the depressing news of cancer.
Anna Kendrick, Bryce Dallas Howard, Anjelica Huston and Philip Baker Hall
provide good support but this the show of Jo Go and Seth Rogen and their chemistry as friends.
A poignant yet humorous tale of friends and their struggle to come to terms with the reality of having cancer.
Highly Recommended

"There's this whole school of thought that movies are always so great when you're 10 or 12 years old, and the reality of it is, when you're 10 or 12 years old, you've only seen 100 stories. By the time you get to be 25, you've seen 3,000. You've seen every permutation of every dramatic arc. And when somebody takes that and stands it on its head, that can be exciting."

One of the advantages of being a member of the film industry, is getting screeners in the mail. Just got 12 films in the mail (50/50 is one of them) from the Spirit Awards, which starting this year I am allowed to vote for. This whole month is also packed with screenings of nominated movies in the theaters for voting members...
My thoughts on 50/50 as soon as time allows.

If it were all in the script, why make the film?

Brilliant! We wait to hear your views on the movies you watch, especially the ones we will be denied in cinemas here.
