Murmur of the Heart [Le souffle au coeur] (Louis Malle, 1971)

A coming of age story. Because it is French, then it is obviously about sex too. And because it is French and made in the early 70s, then it is a sweet coming of age story about a boy wanting to fuck his mother.

Yes, that is actually what I wrote. And exactly the sort of sentence that would make me want to watch this film if I hadn't seen it.

But it's not an incest story. It is still a coming of age story, the incest part is a byproduct of the circumstances of the boy's life. He is 15, sex has started being a very important part of his life, and he is very close to his mother (insanely attractive MILF). It is the combination of different things in his life, and probably the fact that he feels only comfortable and close to his mother, that the lines between different kinds of love one feels for ones mother seems to blur. It is not that the boy merely wants to fuck his mother, but it seems because he feels such an immense love for her, that, in a way, it is only natural. If he feels comfortable talking to her, being close to her, spending time with her, playing games with her, why not add another activity to the list?

Everyone always says that in marrying, men are merely looking to have another mother figure in their lives. Maybe the only thing that keeps more people lusting after their mothers is that by the time they are 15, their mothers aren't that hot anymore.

You know what, almost everyone probably read that and laughed and (secretly) agreed; then the laughter caught in their throat and they went, "Oh, Madali...such a character! Sick mind. Glad we're not like him, but good to have him as comic relief!"

As for me, I salute your wisdom!
