If you like Formula One racing and need to learn a little about F1 during the late 80's early 90's then Senna is the documentary you need to watch. A documentary about the Brazilian F1 racing driver Ayrton Senna, who won the F1 world championship three times before his death at age 34 while racing at the Imola GP.

The documentary contains real life footage from the start of his career to his tragic end with comments and inputs from commentators and colleagues at that time. The focus is clearly on Senna and how his competitive spirit brought to his downfall. His rivalry with Alain Prost on the race track and the favoritism to Prost from the federation all culminates to Senna being a tougher and grittier race driver.

Directed by Asif Kapadia who did the underrated and unseen The Warrior and the forgettable The Return. Obviously here most of the documentary is just editing the footage of Senna which is available at Senna's foundation but he edits and directs it in a way that make it interesting and watchable.

A solid documentary.

Solid recommendation. I remember being fixated by the Senna/Prost rivalry as a kid and their races were great to watch. It was quite shocking when he died.

"There's this whole school of thought that movies are always so great when you're 10 or 12 years old, and the reality of it is, when you're 10 or 12 years old, you've only seen 100 stories. By the time you get to be 25, you've seen 3,000. You've seen every permutation of every dramatic arc. And when somebody takes that and stands it on its head, that can be exciting." David Fincher
