The movie sounds and looks good, but that is a very bad poster.

Clooney can really assemble a star cast - George Clooney, Ryan Gosling, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Jeffery Wright, Marisa Tomei, Paul Giamatti.

Gosling, one of the greatest actors of this generation, seems to finally be getting his due this year.

Three mainstream movies in one year for Mr Indie.
Crazy, Stupid, Love
Drive
The Ides Of March
...and there's
Marisa Tomei
in two of them.

And yes, with Clooney directing and starring alongside such a terrific cast, this looks very, very promising.
Now that the noise from Transformers and the Harry Potter finale is behind us, it seems that 2011 is finally starting to get interesting.

awesome poster awesome cast and i love political thrillers but just like the "Margin Call" trailer it looks like it's taking itself very seriously which might end up being very lame campy thriller...but with Clooney behind it i'm not worried.
"Republicans hate the beginning of the movie, Democrats hate the end,"
Clooney added.
"So we're good."

By the time you get to be 25, you've seen 3,000. You've seen every permutation of every dramatic arc. And when somebody takes that and stands it on its head, that can be exciting."

Amen to that!
I believe his comic turn in "Crazy, Stupid, Love" has surprised many... especially after all those brooding characters he's played so far.

Watched it, liked it, but not too much.
Clooney
was a better director two movies ago than he is now, which doesn't speak well for his craft. He hasn't matured as a director and therefore puts doubt if he can ever become a great director. Performances, on the other hand, are mostly good, though they don't require much from the ensemble of stars - except for the other man-of-the-moment
Ryan Gosling
(let's not take the moment away from
Fassbender
).
Gosling
plays his character straight, and effortless, but owing that the picture focuses just on him start to finish, does a commendable job of holding it together (he *is* easily watchable), not unlike what he did in
Drive
. Otherwise, a by-the-numbers movie.
Would I recommend this movie? Yes, but for academic interest. I'd say: "Watch it if and when you get the time.'

The main problem with this movie is that the situations are forced on the viewers, they dont play out naturally. The main plot of the movie of Gosling meeting Giamatti from the opposition is so not believable as that is something a rookie would do and not a highly seasoned and experienced campaigner. Anyway the situations just presented itself and the movie rolled on. Decent performances from all involved but this could have been so much better.

and who said Gosling's character is experienced? he is clearly a rookie but smart one.The movie is another good movie not great.
btw, i can't stand all these talentless actors like Ryan Gosling or Channing Tatum but apparently their time has come they are in every single movie these days argh.....
