This looks and feels like something
Robert Zemeckis
would do.

Scorsese seems to have thick skin. The more people lament the loss of the his older self, the more he goes back to making films perfectly in sync with the studio system. This might be good, but Scorsese perhaps should not be the one making this kind of stuff (3D too!). It hurts his credibility in my opinion. Can we imagine Fincher, 20 years from now, making big budget studio films? Shudder...

argh...i hate it every time when ppl complain every time Scorsese comes out with a new movie in a new different genre he didn't touch in the the past.
and you are saying can we expect Fincher to do a big budget studio film? he is already doing that, son.you need to read both Fincher comments about his next remake and what Scorsese said about 3D.

There is nothing wrong with studio films, but when it looks as cliche'd as this (Borat doing pratfalls, dogs being funny, orphan kids being cute) from one of the most respected directors of all time, you have to step back and think about it. I don't care what Scorsese says or thinks about 3D. What do you think of it? How many films have become more rewarding viewing experiences by utilizing the medium? Maybe you need to spend less time on movie news sites and more watching them huh?

i'm not a big fan of 3D...i'm just saying if you read what the two directors think about what they are doing then you wouldn't post what you said.

apparently James Cameron thinks it's a "Masterpiece" he also said it's the best use of 3D he had seen including his films..

Just saw it in 3D. It's everything the trailer suggests it is, so I wasn't really disappointed. But, when Scorecese has his name attached to it (and you consider the praise it has been getting), it is unfair to call this a great movie - that's just injustice to the man's body of work (even the little I've seen). It is entertaining, cinematic and, sort of well made, but not the masterpiece that it is made out to be. Scorecese's love for cinema is all over it. This is him making a movie to channel his own childhood dream, rather than give the audience a memorable movie. Therefore, it gets a little too dramatic at times.
Also, the 3D gave me a headache. I'll stick by my opinion of 3D - it is an unnecessary tool and a distraction in live-action movies.

Do you recommend watching it in 2D then?

Well, in this case, no. Scorecese shot it and intended it to be seen in 3D. So the format is part of the movie, and should be judged with the 3D aspect. In fact, two scenes of the movie are clearly re-created from classics just because of the 3D.

This film sounds like a chore to sit through. I will give it a watch, just because of the man behind it.

From all what I read and heard, the film is a marvel and I am really looking forward to see it. Odds are this film will get a best picture nomination, so don't discard it just yet Fizz. I myself am looking forward to watch it in big screen. I am going for a course in Kuwait next Insha Allah and I hope it will still be playing while I am thre.
