Art is a relatively term yes, but not undebateable. Relatively, and in this case it means compared to mainstream cinema, Another Earth carries a message, is complex, quite original, has no emphasis on stars or star building, takes a bit of risk with its premise - you could say its an anti-Hollywood film experience and to me, therefore, qualifies as an art film. Another possible explanation for whether this is an art film is dependent on who made it (whether he was an artist in the first place, like the names mentioned here such as Bergman or Dreyer). Without a body of work behind the director (Cahill), I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.
