Mortal Kombat Legacy (Web series, 2011)

Remember the Mortal Kombat short, bloody and brutal, that came out last year?

Well, it's director Kevin Tancharoen managed to secure a deal with Warner Bros to direct a series of web episodes titled Mortal Kombat Legacy. These short episodes (8 - 10 minutes) present the world of Mortal Kombat in a new way, maintaining much of the realistic tone of that earlier short. A total of 10 episodes will be released.

About the episodes - two things work, and two don't.

Bad:
- Acting. Terrible terrible performance my most of the actors, when they are not fighting. Which unfortunately shows how quickly the production was put together -- they didn't have enough time to probably scout for unknown but *good* actors.
- Effects. Really, effects are so abundant in movies, ads, music videos and television now that these just show how cheap & quick these productions were.

Good:
- Action. The fight choreography is excellent, just as expected from a series based on a fighting game.
- Story. Liking it so far. The characters and pots introduced are very interesting, with Cage & Raiden's being easily the best.

Based on the original short and the above web-series, Kevin Tancharoen has been hired by WB to make a feature movie for a theatrical release in 2013.
