From my Hollywood 2011 preview:

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo
Drama, Thriller
Release date: December 21st

David Fincher, it is said, can make a good movie out of a phonebook. Here, he gets an award-winning crime novel as his source. Fresh of his excellent facebook movie (The Social Network), Fincher goes back into Se7en territory – the movie deals with a murder investigation that goes much further and deeper than the investigators thought. What is very interesting is this: the book that this movie is based on is the first part of a multiple-award winning trilogy. Might we just have a trilogy from Fincher?

So, we have confirmed cast news: Daniel Craig, Rooney Mara, Robin Wright, Stellan Skarsgård, Christopher Plummer.

It was also confirmed last night that Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross will reteam with David Fincher after they worked on the terrific soundtrack of The Social Network together.

She doesn't look anywhere like the girl we've seen in A Nightmare on Elm Street or The Social Network, this might just be very awesome.

Did it require that? I thought Fincher's name was good enough Wink

Well it is enough, but I wasn't too impressed with the original and I didn't really think Kate Mara could transform into Lisbeth Salander the way Noomi Rapace did.

Kate Mara no, Rooney Mara.

Yeah, Kate Mara is her older sister, from 127 Hours.

Well the original lacked intensity, it was trying too hard to be a thriller/whodunit. It just moved at slow pace and the real parts that should have evoked tension did nothing for me. It kept reminding me of a poor mans The Ghost Writer.

Dude she looks nothing like the sweet and likable Erica Albright in The Social Network. What a transformation, brilliant.

I have feeling that was the intent behind releasing these pictures so early into production - to get fans of the first movie and books into believing that this can be a good movie. And really, these pictures speak for the kind of prep going into the movie.
