Hey guys, while we are at it, we should start compiling our list for worst of the year just like we did last year. We can do subcategories they way we did it last time too. I would suggest films that I saw, like Killers, and Saw 3D. Film I didn't see like Sex and the City 2, Little Fockers, and Vampires Suck should be in this list, so let the drums roll.

How about we retitle this to Most Overrated Films of 2010?

Worst films is easy to do, and frankly most of us try and avoid seeing *bad* films anyway -- which means the likes of VAMPIRES SUCKS, KILLERS, etc will not be nominated from my side, because I haven't even seen them.

Overrated films are those that the majority likes, but *you* do not like (or hate). The results will be more interesting (example: I have INCEPTION and BLACK SWAN on my Overrated list; but the same movies show up on others' BEST OF list!) and the list will be better for it.

Predators. My justification:

The movie is all wrong.

1) Adrien Brody is NOT an action hero. Definitely not with *that* nose. And especially one to face a bad-ass predator, one with a jaw-bone like that villain of The Mask.

2) Topher Grace is *gasp* a NUT! Wow!! Why else the fuck was he dropped in on the planet in the first place? The Predators don't watch enough TV. They should have picked Dexter.

3) A sword-fight between a minor Jap and a Predator. Really. No, really. A 5'10" puny human against a 7' bad-ass brute. Arnie and his Iron-Pumpers couldn't hold their own against one, and here this lone wannabe-Yakuza manages. Maybe the Predator read Miller's Ronin a few too many times.

4) The two most interesting characters die within a few mins of coming on screen. Machete & Morpheus. I'd have got my money's worth if either of them fought the Predator. Heck, Machete+knife vs Predator (instead of the Jap+sword vs Predator)  -- now that would be kick ass!

5) Bringing racism to Predators. Who the fuck cares? These are killers! We don't wanna know about their black/white or big/small issues. What, they wanted to build for a political drama sequel about the uprising of the smaller Predators?

Man, this was a bad film. I hated it. Kayee & Fizz think otherwise, but really, I enjoyed the simplicity & fun of Alien vs Predators way more than this. Of course, none of it measures up the original.

My rating --> 2 of 5

I would second Shariq's pick of Iron Man 2, but to me the king of overrated films of the year is no less than this year's Cannes's Golden Palm Winner Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives. It was tedious, it was boring, and somehow almost all critics think it's a masterpiece. But there are some enjoyable quotes from critics that fall in our camp:

"Mesmeric in the way that staring at a tank of tropical fish for a couple of hours is mesmeric. Still, just the ticket if you're high, recovering from major surgery or are a cat." Cathrine Bray - Film4

"Less a Palme D'Or than a Dalme Sn'Or." Robin Collin - News of The World

"There's crap, and there's pseudo-intellectual crap. Uncle Boonmee apparently falls into the latter category." Brandon Judell - CultureCatch

Really, Kaytee? You actually thought EXPENDABLES would be...good?

As for PREDATORS, the reviews are middling (even from our WM corps),and the expectations were low to begin with.

I guess my definition of an overrated film is one that has *redeemable qualities* but the love it is getting from others (critics, as well as your own peers) is baffling and disproportionate. And you personally kinda hate the film!

SHUTTER ISLAND and UNCLE BOONMEE are good examples.
