I've been looking for one too, but I needed something with proper up-scaling to 1080i, but I heard the initial WD and Seagate media drives sucked in that department. AK, do let us know how well the WD upscales .KFF please.
From what I understand the WDTV Plus Live should upscale to 1080i. But, remember, the upscaling also depends on your TV and the connection (if you are using HDMI or Component). Lastly, when it comes to .kff files, they are (at best) 720p around 800mb, so what you are really looking for is not *resolution* but a higher *bit rate*.
To my taste, as a home viewer, I have found 480i (native resolution for DVDs, obviously compressed at a high bit rate) perfectly acceptable. If I were to go beyond this "home standard" and think professionally, then it's 1080
p
, which is fast becoming the gold standard worldwide for resolution (in filmmaker terms, this is because it simulates motion in *film* cameras which operate at 24/25fps).

1080p in live action looks absurd, too clear for my liking, unless we're watching Sports or Animal Planet. There is no softness to the image. But 1080p in animation looks splendid.

I'll be using HDMI, connected to a 40" full HD LCD. Fizz's Samsung DVD player and HK do a pretty good job of upscaling to 1080i, and that's the sort of quality I'm looking for.

I'll update you on how the WDTV Live Plus handles upscaling to 1080i, as soon as I get it.

AK, please do let me know how much you getting your media drive for? Im assuming getting it from your local Best Buy store would be cheaper.
Best Buy is selling it online for $119.99.

AK, how is the media player so far? I need one too, and I'm trying to decide between an upscaling DVD player by LG or Samsung that costs AED 279 and upscales DVDs to 1080p (you can connect flash drives to it too, but not pocket drives) or a WD media player which can connect directly to my external drive containing my movies and upscale them.

I've been busy with film production, so haven't had time to try out my media drive.
But based on what you have stated, it seems the media player would be a better fit for your needs.

Aloha. I bought the WDTV Live from a guy on Souq, for AED 280, which is a pretty good deal considering it's still has the balance of 7 months worth of warranty.
The Live costs AED 425 here, and the Live Plus isn't available in the branches of Plug-Ins, eMax, Sharaf DG, Hyper Panda and Carrefour I've checked at last week.
Let's hope it upscales well (hasn't been delivered to me yet), otherwise, I'll end up buying an upscaling DVD player, which costs AED 279.

How is it exactly? File format wise, menu, upscaling/resolution?

it's amazing,it's so small i can eat it..
file format you will never be able to play anything unless it plays on iTunes which is sad of course but right now they managed to jailbreak it with a program that can play anything you throw at it but still more better solutions will come in the future i guess.
resolution is breath taking i was so shocked to find out the resolution of pix is even better on my 40 inch Sony than my 25 inch cinema display...if you display porn you don't have to jerk off,you will just cum right away!
just like what many ppl said it's a step in the right direction as many analysis predict Apple will get into the TV market...with something like this!
honestly, i don't care much about the Apple TV not having HD because if i want to watch a movie i'll just buy a DVD or if i'm in the US i'll just rent it from netflix through Apple TV but for me i just want to display pix and porn from my mac to my display, thats it.
