Zach Snyder, the director of Watchmen and 300, was handpicked by WB and Christopher Nolan, who is developing the film with David Goyar, to direct the latest Superman installment, after a really short period of anticipation. A few weeks a go a short list of directors was announced, that has Snyder, Tony Scott, Matt Reeves, Jonathan Liebesman, and Duncan Jones, as prospects for directing the new film. Deadline.com reports:

Quote from: www.deadline.com
Zack Snyder has been chosen to direct  the new installment of Superman for Warner Bros and Legendary Pictures. Snyder was on a short list of directors that I recently revealed met with the studio as well as producers Chris Nolan and Emma Thomas. Other choices at the time included helmers Tony Scott, Matt Reeves, Jonathan Liebesman, and Duncan Jones. I think Snyder is an inspired choice. He is a cornerstone filmmaker for Warner Bros., a visual stylist whose efforts for the studio include 300, Watchmen, and the upcoming Sucker Punch. Deadline revealed back on February 9 that the DC Comics stalwart Superman became a priority project when Nolan agreed to godfather it. He and David S. Goyer hatched the story and Goyer wrote the script. The new Superman's producers also include  Charles Roven and Deborah Snyder while co-financer Legendary Pictures' Thomas Tull will serve as executive producer. I'm sure there will be hot debate on Snyder as the choice, but judging from 300, you can be sure the Man of Steel will have an inspired six-pack.

I am not sure Snyder is such a great choice, he makes striking looking films which are amazing to watch but ultimately doesn't resonate emotionally after that. I didn't particularly love 300 or Watchmen, and the only film of his that I really like was Dawn of The Dead, which was one great Zombie film.

Uwe Boll directed it, straight to DVD.

Snyder is an interesting choice. Although I have no doubt that he is capable of making extremely watchable (yet forgettable) movies - Dawn of the Dead and 300 - he may just bring in the right amount of style that the current generation of majority movie-goers may need to get into the screens to watch this. Also, consider this: Jonathan Nolan's script is going to be behind whatever stylization we see on screen. Snyder is a very lucky man - he'll ride the success that will mostly have been built by others.

Now, Question# 1, who's gonna be Superman? My $0.02, don't go with an unknown, but not someone too famous either - exactly like how Bale was before the Batman movies.

After Bryan Singer's SUPERMAN RETURNS, how can any one make SUPERMAN worse.

Bring it on, Snyder, and we look forward to seeing Superman fuck Lois Lane in slo-mo.

There has been a rumor that John Hamm is a candidate for the role, and I think he would make an awesome superman.

He is the right age (39 now, 41 by the time the movie hits) to play Superman, is mildly well-known because of Mad Men, and quite importantly, is a Legendary Pictures/Warner Bros + Snyder boy (The Town, Sucker Punch).

So yeah, fine and likely choice. Though it is too early to speculate yet.

I haven't watched Mad Men though, so dunno how good an actor he is.

As a film actor, I have seen Jon Hamm in two films in small roles, The Day the Earth Stood Still, and The A-Team, and he was wasted in both. He will be seen in The Town soon but his role was the one role that didn't impress anyone, from all what I read and heard. As a TV star, his Don Draper has become such an iconic role, perhaps as important as Tony Soprano and Jack Bauer in TV history, and he take a big chunk of the credit for that.

I'll continue my non-productive day at work with my dream-cast for this movie. Here goes:

Clark Kent / Kal-El / Superman

Just going with what was speculated above. I do not have anyone else in mind. If I think of someone (Eureka! moment), I'll post it up later.

Louis Lane

Both have a wide-eyed look that will suit a damsel in distress. Both are equally believable to play a spirited reporter. Most importantly, both are beautiful enough for Superman to fall for.

Lex Luthor

Rich, powerful, egoistical, over-confident, maniac. He thinks he can beat Superman. With this man, we'll want him to.

General Zod

This is one guy we *will* believe to be beating the shit out of the Man of Steel. Plus his eyes and his accent will help to establish Kryptonian roots.

Jor El

The need to fill Marlon Brando's shoes. Need to coax this man out of retirement, and Nolan is possibly one man who can do it.

Jimmy Olsen

Inept tag-along.

Perry White

To go British or American? That's the question.

Trump card would be a flashback with Jonathan & Martha Kent

The truth is out there.

Excellent choice, esp. for Zod and Lex, but I doubt it could get pulled off...if it flops like Bryan Singer's Superman.
