Ebook Readers

Its seems that its starting to get really good for getting an ebook reader as the technology has finally matured enough.
Like everything else I buy, I dont usually go for the instantly recognizable brand name, because they usually are more expensive, have features I don't need, and alternatives could be better.
My requirements for an ereader would be as follows:
1) Very good reading screen, I don't care about it having color or such, but its black & white e-ink technology needs to be great
2) Maximize use of the screen, meaning no thick frames or keyboard space
3) Open support for as many formats as possible
Other features such as web browser, wireless, mp3, etc, is not needed. I just need something with the above features and the only other important things would be battery and storage space (and this wont be that important either, an 8 gb or a 16gb will be the same for me)

Actually, I think a person should just go for a Kindle. I did a quick read on 3rd party softwares, and it seems people have even made a Kindle Manga converter, which is something I didnt even think about!
And and 130 USD for the latest model, its dirt cheap

yeah those crappy Kindles and iPads with their closed systems.i bet you are one of those weirdos who hang out around electronic shops trying cheap Samsung phones.why don't you wait for the pen-based tablet by Microsoft with 5 USB ports so you can hook up all your devices to it including a USB floppy disk drive so you can use your floppy disks from 1994?
loser!

Mad, just buy the Kindle 2 (WiFi only) for $139. It really fits all the needs you have outlined. Another very important factor is how the eBook reader *feels* in your hands: the ergonomics factor. For example, I have physically inspected both the iPad and the Kindles, and in this regard Amazon's Kindles have the edge.
If I were not in the States where I have access to my college and (extensive) public library systems, like you I too would have been relying on eBooks for my reading...

I want to correct myself: the *new* Kindle is simply called KINDLE 3G and KINGLE (the former has 3G+Wifi while the latter has only WiFi).
I checked the Amazon website, and it tells me the item is available and can ship "within 3 to 5 days."

I know, it also doesn't play 3D games, can't be use as a sword, and is not edible! So shitty!
Its a freaking ebook reader! It doesn't need color! Most of us grown-ups read books that are black and white and have passed the stage of coloring in books.

I think Amazon will eventually come out with a Kindle Color to remain competitive; but for our purposes (at least mine and Mad's), a black-and-white Kindle is perfectly fine. It's about reading books, simple as that.
And since I'm not going to buy one until I transcend my student status, I am counting on Madali as the guinea pig, and hearing of his first experience with the Kindle, if he ever buys one...
