TEJA mein hoon, Mark idhar hai !!

« on: August 16, 2010, 12:06:PM »

Edward Zwick is taking a break from doing war movies and trying his hand out at chick flicks. Anne Hathaway and Prince of Persia star together and by the look of the trailer there should be plenty of nudity in this one.

I had promised myself not to watch any Zwick movies anymore. But the lead-pair in this movie is gonna make me go back on my promise. And then, if there's Anne Hathaway and Viagra in the same premise...

By the time you get to be 25, you've seen 3,000. You've seen every permutation of every dramatic arc. And when somebody takes that and stands it on its head, that can be exciting." David Fincher

That is one of the best trailers of a commercial film I have seen in recent memory. It totally works!

The film looks like a fruit salad of every chick flick made before. I think if I were watching it, I'd be two steps ahead of the plot without even trying (thank you Inception). A bad director goes worse.

Quote
How do you direct that?
You understand that the scene has a beginning, a middle, and an end. It has a purpose. In this movie, sex plays an important role in the narrative arc of the characters—they fall into bed long before they fall into love. That was our guide.

What about the legal aspects?
There were conversations early on about what are you going to show in this scene, with lawyers and agents. They wanted that to be legislated. They were preparing documents—pages and pages—and I remember Anne and Jake and I talking, saying: how do we do this? At a certain point, they said, this is about trust. I pledged there would be nothing in the film they weren't comfortable with.

Here's a fun Ed Zwick story:

Someone I know very well was being mentored by him at AFI. He was at Zwick's home when an earthquake struck (it was a minor one and earthquakes are pretty frequent here in California; but it was strong enough to shake things up!). There were a couple of people in the room, including my friend (let's call him Joe).

Zwick, being very well-read and knowledgeable, ran for the door-frame, the most stable structure during an earthquake. He wedged himself in the door, effectively blocking others access to the exit. As the earthquake rumbled, the rest of the people in his home tried to get past him through the door, and despite their pleas, Zwick refused to budge. He yelled angrily, "I'm NOT going to move!"

The earthquake subsided and ultimately no one was hurt. Zwick regained his composure and became a gentleman again. But, during those few minutes, everyone in the room got to see a side of Zwick that only he knows of.

Joe graduated from AFI and became a teacher. He and Zwick are no longer friends.
