Black Swan (Aronofsky, 2010)

How do you get a guy to watch a movie about Ballet?
1) Get
Aronofsky
to direct it.
2) Get
Natalie Portman, Mila Kunis, Winona Ryder
and
Vincent Cassel
to star in it.
Aronofsky
's ready with
Black Swan
for its first screening at the Venice Film Festival in a little less than a month, followed by a screening at the Toronto International Film Festival. It get's a US limited release on 1st December.
Hope to see it at DIFF, especially since Kaytee's tweeted them to bring it here!
In the psychological thriller,
Portman
plays ballet dancer Nina who is competing with a rival dancer, Lilly (
Kunis
) for the role of Odette, the Swan Queen, in the upcoming production of “Swan Lake”. There’s only one slight problem: Lilly may just be a figment of Nina’s imagination or a supernatural apparition. Either way, not helpful to Nina. Also, there’s angry, aggressive sex-scene between Nina and Lilly.
Ryder
will play Beth, Nina’s “sorta friend” who has been the school’s running lead in all the productions, but who is nearing the end of her career. All the dancers are aiming to take her place as Odette, the Swan Queen, in the next big ballet: Swan Lake.
Cassel
will be playing the “handsome but sinister Yevna,” the director of the new stage production.
Quite obviously,
Clint Mansell
is the composer. His plans include drawing from elements in Tchaikovsky‘s 19th century ballet, Swan Lake.

By the time you get to be 25, you've seen 3,000. You've seen every permutation of every dramatic arc. And when somebody takes that and stands it on its head, that can be exciting."
