Universal announced the release date for this needless remake of a classic, which is as announced April 29th 2011. The original John Carpenter's is just awesome, the atmosphere, the suspense, the look, and even the effects holds up pretty will 30 years later. Anyway, this one is presumeably a prequel to the original, and it follow the Norwegian team, which are talked about in the original and how they disappeared/killed mysteriously.

Dutch first-time director Matthijs van Heijningen Jr. is leading the project, written by Eric Heisserer (A Nightmare on Elm Street) and Ronald D. Moore (Battlestar Galactica), and starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Joel Edgerton, and Eric Christian Olsen.

Yes, she was Ms. Mclane afterall. But wikipedia states:

Quote
"Winstead has been called a prominent scream queen because of her roles in the horror films Monster Island, The Ring Two, Final Destination 3, Black Christmas, Death Proof, and The Thing."

Expect her to die for cheap thrills in this film too.

Clearly there is a lack of original scripts in Hollywood, thus the remakes popping up everyday...Its either a remake or a comic book movie or a sequel...

So true! This film opens 2 weeks after Scream 4, and one week before Thor.

first,The Thing greatness lies in the fact it was before its time in terms of special effects.it's a great film and there's nothing a remake can add to it,it belongs to the 80's and it should be that way.

second, the concept of The Thing is general,so please if you are gonna make a new movie with the same concept of The Thing you might as well call it something else.

i don't want a Thing remake and anyone who is involved in this should be ashamed of themselves including Wes Craven who is simply backstabbing himself and his fans..

By the time you get to be 25, you've seen 3,000. You've seen every permutation of every dramatic arc. And when somebody takes that and stands it on its head, that can be exciting." David Fincher

I really appreciate the original, but it is not one of my favorite films, that is why I am not offended by this remake/prequel. As KT said, the trailer is ok. Hopefully it will be a good film.

The original was ho hum. Revolutionary (effects, concepts) doesn't mean it was a very good film - mediocre more like it. However, this remake looks so absolutely unnecessary and pointless by comparison.

Stupid poster with a dumb homage to the original for what is likely to be a stupid film.
