20th Century Fox has officially confirmed: Matthew Vaughn will direct X-Men: First Class.

As good as this news is, the release date of June 3, 2011 does not sound encouraging. That puts this movie just over an year from now. considering he's just been brought in, from pre-production to post-production in such a short time, for what is definitely going to be a CGI heavy movie, this does not bode well. how much of a rush-job it will be, we will know once the first images start to appear. Even for a director we all like, it'll pay to be skeptical.

Official Synopsis:
"X-Men: First Class, following the classic Marvel mythology, charts the epic beginning of the X-Men saga. Before Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Before they were archenemies, they were closest of friends, working together, with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to stop the greatest threat the world has ever known. In the process, a rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto’s Brotherhood and Professor X’s X-Men."

Let the casting begin!

Btw, considering Wolverine does not age like the others, it's possible that Hugh Jackman may come back as Wolverine in this. Though being an amazing actor, it's not like he's doing much anyway.

For Magneto, now how about Haley Joel Osment?

James McAvoy will play Professor X, and I think he is a very good choice.

Quote from: slashfilm.com
20th Century Fox has officially signed James McAvoy to play a young Professor X in Kick-Ass helmer Matthew Vaughn’s X-Men series prequel/reboot X-Men: First Class. McAvoy is certainly a capable actor who has done the comic book movie thing before with Wanted.

By the time you get to be 25, you've seen 3,000. You've seen every permutation of every dramatic arc. And when somebody takes that and stands it on its head, that can be exciting." David Fincher

Brilliant choice. Wouldn't have guessed it.

This keeps him out of del Toro's The Hobbit movies, so those rumors can be put to rest.

James McAvoy is an excellent actor. I recently rewatched Atonement and he was just brilliant in that devastating love tragedy. I am really looking forward for X-Men now that Fox nailed both the lead and the director. Hopefully the choice for Magneto will be as inspired.

Com'n KT, don't even joke about it. He had already ruined a franchise.

I'll throw in James Franco's name. But considering he's done quasi-villain in one super-hero franchise already, he may not wanna do it again.

Have you seen Shattered Glass.

I know this one is supposedly his only good performance, but come'n, he had three Star Wars films, Jumper, and even freakin' Awake to prove his acting chops but all gone to waste. I have heard that even his little segment in New York I Love You is cringe-worthy. So if you were not joking, snap out of it!

Agree with Ayaa. He's a whiney actor. Similar to Terrence Howard. But yeah, I think Shattered Glass is his only good flick.

How about Ryan Gosling as young Magneto? He is an excellent young actor and he will be the answer for McAvoy's Professor X
