He did it!
Yesterday, 6th March 2010, little Mr. Simaaq Ahmed Madani made his grand landing.
Congratulations to Shariq and Sana for the arrival of His Royal Cuteness. Wishing the family of three all the best of health, happiness and success.
Rock on, little wizard!

Congrats to Shariq!
Not only do the married ones outnumber the single ones now on this forum, but it seems, at this rate, the dad's will start to outnumber everyone else.

By the time you get to be 25, you've seen 3,000. You've seen every permutation of every dramatic arc. And when somebody takes that and stands it on its head, that can be exciting."

Thank you all. It IS a great joy to become a father, with every cliche thrown in

Who chose the name?
My choice, and Sana loved it, so we kept it.
Simaaq, in old Arabic, literally means "The uplifted one" or "Someone raised to a high position". Normally it is spelled as "Simak" (السماك Simāk), but I've chosen to spell it differently for the correct pronunciation and to distinguish it from "Samak" which means "fish".
The name is also used by Arabs as a base name for two stars: Arcturus, one of the brightest stars of the night sky, and Spica, from the Virgo constellation. You can find the Arabic name of the star at the Wikipedia pages of these two stars (
Arcturus
&
Spica
).
There you go with the Etymology!

It is a good choice Shariq. Also I noticed that it starts with a syllable of your wife's name and ends with yours, so it is really clever wordplay of you. Or am I reading to much into it?

Excellent news! We welcome the youngest film enthusiast in the group! He doesn't know it yet, but he will surely get his dad's (and his mom's) film loving qualities! Cheers!

Oz, Aaya is right. It was a conscious choice to star with "S" and end with "Q". If it was a girl, it would start with "S" and end with "A".
