This may also mean that video/audio transfer will be remastered. Guess when they said "Special Edition" they weren't fucking around. Optimum is doing good things.
Criterion, boo!

It's going to be a 2-disc set!
P.S. I personally would've left the floating heads out, but it's still a classic cover (fans of the film will attest to the power of that single hint of red - something that Spielberg ripped/homaged in "Private Ryan")

DVD Active are saying 4x3 foolscreen and DD 2.0, I'm sure this is a mistake. If not then the heavens help Optimum!

hmm since Paramount Pictures owns the rights for this remake and they own the rights for the original movie DVD release, i think they will definitly release a SE for the original movie.so you might wanna wait for that....in other news, i was reading the other day that Ridley Scott is developing a remake of The Warriors which is also backed my Paramount.
does that mean Paramount will remake Good Burger?

It hasn't hit any of the trades yet but looks like the new release from Optimum is going to a one-disc affair afterall.
Amazon UK clues us in with the artwork which has only SE on it. Still no word on the audio remaster yet...

HMV has finally got this up for pre-order and there's more news on those extra features:
Audio Commentary By Director Nic Roeg
Looking Back: The Making Of Documentary - 20 Minute Featurette Including Interviews With Roeg, The Cinematographer And Editor
Introduction By Alan Jones, Author Of 'The Rough Guide To Horror'
Interview With Composer Pino Donnagio
Digitally Restored Feature
16 Page Booklet Including Rarely Seen Behind-The-Scenes Stills And A New Essay By 70s Cinema Expert Ryan Gilbey
btw, Optimum been releasing a lot of great releases lately, i just don't understand why they don't include English Subtitles in them, assholes.

This digitally restored single-disc special edition DVD release includes the following features:
* Anamorphic Widescreen
* English DD2.0
OK, so it's digitally restored but the audio is still DD2.0?
Something feels not right...

i can assure you that if Paramount did a SE and i think they will, it will include 5.1 for sure but there's no way they are gonna use an artwork as cool as this one.

There's a small chance that Paramount might license the R1 "Don't Look Now" to Criterion.
In other news, Roeg's "Performance" will be out courtesy WB in first quarter 07.
