Blu Ray player
«

January 19, 2010, 01:49:AM »
so i was googling about Blu Ray players and guess what i found out? there's actually no multi region Blu Ray players in the market! the only thing that shows up on my search results is how to hack your Blu Ray to make it multi region...and i soooo don't wanna go that route.
can someone back this up? that Multi Region Blu Ray players don't exist yet?

By the time you get to be 25, you've seen 3,000. You've seen every permutation of every dramatic arc. And when somebody takes that and stands it on its head, that can be exciting."

We've hacked our regular DivX DVD player to play all regions, it was really no biggy, just a code and voila.

it answers nothing man it just adds more speculations...i agree with this comments:

The problem with region free mods is that there is no guarantee they will continue to work, and that updates will not return them to locked-up status.
that's why i'll never go that route....so i take it there's no official multi region player out there?

This is historical: when DVD players initially came out, multi-region players were difficult to source. Those that went with "chipped" players at the time had to deal with teething issues as the technology firmed up. This is the price early adopters pay. If you wait for another 6-12 months, finding multi-region Blu-ray players will be easier.
I find the idea of collecting *hardware* such as discs (DVDs, blu-rays) obsolete. Digital media is where things are at. Blu-ray is going to die in the next 24 months.

yeah i can wait no problem...i just think it's odd cos i bought my first multi region DVD player back in 2001 and they were widely available..but i guess 2001 wasn't too early wasn't? yeah..

dude, trust me i know...Blu-ray is already dead no matter how companies claim they sold this million of Blu Rays of this title or that title..but if you are a collector, switching to Bluray isn's an option any more..for once it's getting cheaper and cheaper than DVDs and most of the time it has more extras.
believe it or not i find myself collecting DVDs in 2010 feeling so....lonely.it feels like as if i'm collecting OOP Vinyl records.i have slowed down
a lot
in collecting DVDs over the years but i will not stop any time soon, having my favorite movie of the month in a high definition format with other special features collected in a good package still interest me and i'm sure it still interest many movies lovers out there..
now regarding Digital media,it's not a secret that Digital Media is where things
were
and where things
at
and where things will
be
but you think this will stop collectors? you think this will stop companies from inventing stuff just to get us collecting?
Apple is already working on a TOTALLY NEW FORMAT i'm surprised that no one is talking about it...it's still not confirmed if their format will be dedicated for music only and not movies..

I think digital media has a long way to dominate. Psychologically, people would prefer to have something tangible for the money they pay (i.e. DVD, Blu-Ray, etc.) and unless you make a strong case and make your digital media so attractive, readily available and so handy that the customer can't resist him or herself like the case with the iPod and iTunes, unless that happened Blu-Ray will still be relevant and kicking around for way longer than the 24 months that AK suggested.

yeah 24 months is an exaggeration of course, not to mention many ppl still don't have a fast internet connection which why it will take time for digital media to dominate...but this could be the next best thing

umm ok i promise you i will but what do you think it's gonna be like exactly? i mean if you actually read analysis you will probably realize ppl are still waiting for the DVD to be dead,so how can you say Blu will be dead in 2 years? i say this and i'm the biggest Blu Ray hater ever.
for me,in 24 months i think Blu will drop in price and so will Blu ray players, rumors will start circulating that some companies will stop offering DVDs...well that's about it really.Blu Ray sales will decline maybe?
hell even a few months ago i was reading this article that said DVD will die in 5 years...so yeah.i don't even think companies will stop selling DVDs any time soon for the same reason digital media has yet to dominate;not every house has a fast internet connection.

I am not predicting Blu ray's demise specifically, but the demise of collecting *hard* media. Of course, people like you will still be collecting DVDs and Blu rays in 24 months, just like vinyl record collectors continue to collect records.
Internet is getting cheaper and streaming video technology is improving day-by-day. And in 24 months even houses with a less-than fast connection will be able to get with the program.
P.S. 24 months, or 2 years, seems like a short time -- but consider this: iPhones are common-place now with 3G technology; especially in the Middle East, out of all places. If I told you this 2 years ago, you would not believe me. Even people in US did not believe this. It still happened.

you have a point man but you do have to realize when it comes to watching media, everyone has his own way of doing it.
meaning, for example in this forum i assume in the last 5 years we all had the same or similar internet DSL connection or better yet each one of us had his own way of *watching* movies despite the fact that we all had similar if not the same internet connection.
i'm just saying, don't expect everyone to go digital even when it's for FREE.i know people who still rent movies on VCD and VHS lol
P.S.companies are trying so hard to let consumers pay for digital media when you actually can get it for free.apparently,Apple is negotiating with big studios to introduce a $30/monthly subscription for TV shows on iTunes.

AK, even in Dubai, you still have people buying pirated DVDs from Chinese guys when they could have easily downloaded it. People wont buy completely into digitial medial fully so soon.
I'll take the 24 month bet. In lots of countries, people have just moved past VCDs!!
