I think Hurt Locker should feature in this years list even though we saw it last DIFF [good times Sad].

The two year issue always fucks with our heads.

I agree with Kaytee. Btw, has Hurt Locker had a wide release in Dubai yet?

Was originally planned to be released on 12th November, but release dates in Dubai change more frequently than the weather.

We have to put Julia as priority on our watch list. I have a good feeling about it...

I think it was Scott Tobias from the A.V.Club who described Tilda Swinton's performance as the answer to Daniel Day-Lewis's in There Will Be Blood

True...may be my weekend watch, will report back when done. It has gotten phenomenal acclaim for the main performance by Swinton.

WTF? I have been recommending it for a while, Tilda is brutal and brilliant much better than last years underdog performance from Mellisa Leo for Frozen River.

I knew someone here had seen it but I couldn't find a thread for it here. Then I did an extensive search and realised why...its because of that silly thread called "[Recommendation] Random Movie Tips" where Kaytee had written just one line about the film:

Quote
Julia - Dont fuck with a fucked up Tilda.

Moral: Stick to creating movie threads for movies you'd like to recommend Smiley

By the time you get to be 25, you've seen 3,000. You've seen every permutation of every dramatic arc. And when somebody takes that and stands it on its head, that can be exciting." David Fincher

The 2008/2009 always confuses me, so I have just included them both. We can then sort them out later. Bolded are the ones I feel strongest about.

My choices, unsorted:

Synecdoche, New York
Thirst

(500) Days of Summer
The Wackness
The Hurt Locker
Departures
Let the Right One In
The Good, the Bad, the Weird
The Chaser

Doubt
Phoebe in Wonderland
Tropic Thunder
Wanted
Man on Wire
Doomsday
In Bruges
Rambo 4
Hangover
Castaway on the Moon
A Prophet

Need to Watch:

Will be updated when we have a stronger list from the rest of the members, and then I'll marathon them

Man, I can't believe you actually *liked* Doubt. It reduces the issue of religion into a seemingly intelligent discussion about faith and questioning it; but the film is a screaming exhibition of stereotypes (Meryl Streep playing the bitch-nun) and salacious priest abuse. The only authentic moment in the entire film is the conversation between the nun and the mother of the kid.

I need to see Synecdoche, New York from your list; thanks for the reminder.

Mad, I would completely rule out Tropic Thunder, Wanted, Rambo 4, Doomsday from the 2009 list. There is no doubt/ambiguity about them being nothing but 2008 releases (Rambo came out in January of 2008!). Speaking of Doubt, and echoing ak's thoughts, what is that simplistic trash doing on your list?

You guys are some fucking little dictators. Mad likes the film and regards it one of his favorite. I happen to like it too and so did the majority of the critics and people who watched it last year, why would you wanna impose your taste? You wanna read Mad's justifications, then go back to his analysis. He happens to be a very eloquent and persuasive critic. You of all people Animatedude shouldn't make fun of him with your non-existing critiques.

If Mad needs to defend Doubt, I think he is perfectly capable of it. Besides, if someone posts their list, it is open to praise or brickbat. Lastly, if critics and the majority of critics like the movie, that doesn't mean it is quality: they could be wrong; we could be wrong too; and that's therein lies the debate and fun!
