how can Nine get all these nominations when it's trashed by the majority of critics?

By the time you get to be 25, you've seen 3,000. You've seen every permutation of every dramatic arc. And when somebody takes that and stands it on its head, that can be exciting." David Fincher

I don't get how nominations can be announced before the year ends. Are they assuming all voting members have seen the movies that will release by year end?

The Globes is an association for the Foreign Press reporters, and the voting pool is somewhere around 100 individuals. I imagine everyone has a film in the running would have sent them screeners. You can see that films that didn't open like Sherlock Holmes (Robert Downey, Jr.'s nomination for Best Actor in a Comedy) and It's Complicated  (Meryl Streep's for Best Actress in a Comedy). I think that is the justification for The Globes, but I can't speak for the other awards.

That's 5/6 for Best Director and 4/6 for best film, for Hurt Locker. Seems there's a critics' favorite this year - one that Kaytee & I agree on!
