The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (Cohen, 2008)

I'm a big fan of the Sommers' "The Mummy," it is great entertainment with good humour and memorable characters with memorable dialogue (Benny!!!!!!!!!!!) Fraser and Weisz had great chemistry in it. Note: I wasn't of age for Indiana Jones sweepstakes, so this is my poor man substitute.
I was left cold by Sommers' CGI bloated sequel which played down the fun factor took itself seriously.
But this good news mainly because I support Fraser. The man has inbuilt charisma. The new project looks interesting because of Gough and Millar's involvement.
Quote from: News
It's now been confirmed Universal Pictures has indeed signed Brendan Fraser for a third Mummy film. Fraser will once again play action hero Rick O'Connell, but the story will not be a direct sequel. It will instead be a "re-imagining" of the first two flicks. The upside of this plan, for the studio, is it allows them to put new cast members in place around Fraser without having to explain why the old ones aren't back. Hey -- it is a re-imagining! No word yet on the fate of the rumored undead terracotta army. Also of note; the new version will be written by Alfred Gough and Miles Millar of Smallville fame, two very popular authors these days.

Quote from: Ecran Large
While she was at the 32nd Deauville American Film Festival promoting "The Fountain", Ecran Large had the opportunity to ask Rachel Weisz about her involvement in "The Mummy 3".
She says "I know there's a new script but I haven't read it yet. Nothing's definite yet and should the film be done, it's probably going to happen next summer. And if so, I would definitely like to be in it".

Joe Johnston will direct the film which aims to begin shooting early 2007.

All of this is great news and I loved the first Mummy as well, more so than its bloated sequel, but the prospect of Joe Johnston (a less Speilberg) directing and not Sommers, saddens me.

It'll be nice to see a fresh take, Sommers got precious with the mythology of the film. Johnston is not bad, I liked his "Jurassic Park 3."

Johnston
's
JP3
is needlessly criticised - but it IS an able addition to the Dinosour movies. I liked it too.
This
Mummy - III
is great news. I really liked the first two and
Scorpion King
too (allthough regressively).

Am a total fan of the 'Mummy' series... will really look forward to the third part, and a refreshing re-imagined version!

i have NEVER walked out of a movie before, never, except for once, when i first watched The Mummy.no no don't get me wrong, it's not because it was bad or anything.here's my story:
when the first movie came out in summer of 1999, i was taking an english class in the UK.and the school i was studing in decided to take us to to the movies over the weekend.i met this saudi guy in this school who's umm arabs-are-the-best-and-islam-is-the-best-religion-in-the-world kinda guy, in the same group, there's this drunk and high all time kinda student, he was from israel.
of course you would know what happens between my friend and the israeli guy all the time.we were on our way to the movies and my friend and the israeli guy were fighting each other and i think someone almost hit the other and i was kinda telling them to calm down..so we decided to watch The Mummy and my friend was still pissed.30-40 minutes to the film i think and there was this scene where this character was arguing an arab seller to buy a camel and then Brendan Fraser character came in and throw a line...i don't remeber what it's but it was very offensive for arabs.
my friend stood up and was like "THIS IS IT IAM OUT!!!!!" lol...so yeah...i i stayed for a few minutes then i left to search for my friend.when i found him, he was so pissed and i was like "hey! i liked the film, i think the special effects were awsome!..." he gave me that look
and then of course i shut my mouth lol.
it's ironic, cos i spent almost everyday with that guy for over 2 months talking about god knows what, and 7 years later, i don't even remeber his name.pretty sad.i do have feelings he's now one of the extremists held in prison in here lol
anyways, i liked The Mummy, The Mummy Returns and The Scorpion King but another Mummy movie? meh...but iam glad it's "reimagination" and not a sequal.and iam glad it's not from Stephen Sommers, the biggest hack in hollywood.i think he should be prisoned for what he did for Van Helsing and iam not even gonna go there...
man iam so pissed that Spielberg decided to give him of his dream projects that he was trying to make for over 15 years, "When Worlds Collide".btw, anyone have idea what's this?

Yes - Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida, USA have a ride called "Revenge Of The Mummy Ride".
This short mockumentry is played before the ride starts to *immerse* you in the scary experience.

Rob Cohen
is in the Director's Chair now.
Quote
Rob Cohen to Direct The Mummy 3 Plus We've Got Story Details!
Sometimes I’m blown away with the decisions that some studios make, but as of late, it doesn’t surprise too much when it’s Universal.
In case you haven’t heard, Rob Cohen will most likely be directing The Mummy III: The Fast and Furious Chinese Mummies. Yep the same guy who directed that fine piece of film called Stealth for Sony that cost over $185 million dollars to make including P & A (marketing, prints and ads) and barely broke $35 million in domestic box office and another $45 million in international box office receipts. Yep, that guy will be given a chance to screw the pooch with the Mummy franchise.
A few of you might remember that we reviewed the script of the Mummy III a good part of a year ago, so while some of the new draft has changed I have been told that the basic story remains the same. We still have Yeti, Shangri-La, a drunk Tibetan monk named Tequila and tons of pissed off Chinese mummies.
There is no doubt that if this movie does move forward, Rachel Weisz and Brendan Frasier will be back, after all it’s them and their annoying kid in the script.
So to refresh your memory, here is a link to our script review from a few months back.
You have been warned, this script makes
Van Helsing
look like
Schindlers List.
Here is the script
.

Good news...no?
Quote
'Stax' over at IGN alerted us that they have learned that actor Jet Li will play the Mummy in "The Mummy 3." Here is what they tell us:
In related news, an IGN reader dropped us a line about The Mummy 3 and director Rob Cohen. "I attend Chapman University in Orange, CA where tonight Rob Cohen did a Q&A after a screening of his film Dragon:The Bruce Lee Story. During the Q&A, someone asked what he thinks about Jackie Chan and Jet Li. In his answer, he confirmed that Jet Li will play the Mummy in The Mummy 3, which he is directing. He also said that the film will take place in China and Michelle Yeoh will also be in the film. The biggest bombshell was that the film's protagonist will not be Brenden Fraser, but rather his character's son, now 22 years-old. Also, Jet Li will be the head Mummy in a group of Mummies that were the Teracotta army."
According to Chapman University's official site, Cohen did indeed attend a screening and guest appearance for Dragon on Feb. 13 at the school's Lawrence and Kristina Dodge College of Film and Media Arts.
Michelle Yeoh's credits include Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Tomorrow Never Dies and Memoirs of a Geisha.
