I don't think these were surprises at all. Toni Collette in The United States of Tara plays a woman with split personalities, she plays more than 4 different personalities that gives her space to do her thing, and you know how good of an actress she is. Michael Emerson as Ben in Lost is really overdue. He's been constantly great and scene-stealer since his first appearance on the Island. This was his third nomination in a raw. Bryan Cranston was last year's winner for Breaking Bad and he is still bringing it on that awesome role, shake that image of the father from Malcolm in The Middle of your heads, because on Breaking Bad Hal he aint. Jon Cryer won his first time after 4 nominations in a raw, I am highly disappointed because Neil Patrick Harris on How I Met Your Mother is spectacular, I have seenTwo and a Half Men a few times and while it is not a bad show,  it is not as clever and hip as HIMYM which is a show that makes laugh track sitcoms relevant again.

I am also happy for Kirsten Chenoweth's win from Pushing Daisies. She managed to further shine in a show that was good all around by itself, and it was a farewell present for that  short lived show.

Tina Fey lost the Lead Actress Emmy but she got the lower profile yet more deserved Guest Actress in a Comedy for her recurring role as Sarah Palin on SNL which was phenomenal. Justin Timberlake won the counterpart Award as Best Guest Actor for SNL too. Say what you won't about his acting in films, or about his music if you will, but he was amazingly funny on SNL.

Other nominees that I would not mind if they won: Any of the other 6 Outstanding Drama Series nominees, How I Met Your Mother for Outstanding Comedy Series, Jim Parson as Lead Actor in a Comedy for The Big Bang Theory, Jon Hamm or Michael C. Hall as Lead Actor in a Drama, Aaron Paul as Outstanding Supporting Actor in A Drama for Breaking Bad, Dianne Wiest or Hope Davis as Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama for In Treatment, and Saturday Night Live for Outstanding Variety, Music, or Comedy Series.

Jon Cryer winning for Two and a Half Men is a joke, he overacts most of the time, NPH would have been a better winner coz he actually lights up an otherwise dull How I Met Your Mother which had started well.

Havent seen Toni Collette's show so cant really comment or Breaking Bad for that matter, but Tina Fey is still doing some awesome work on 30 Rock. I would have liked to see Rainn Wilson win for The Office.

I wouldn't mind Tina Fey winning because she is constantly good, but Toni Collette is more deserving. and obviously I disagree with you on HIMYM which is awesome!

"There's this whole school of thought that movies are always so great when you're 10 or 12 years old, and the reality of it is, when you're 10 or 12 years old, you've only seen 100 stories. By the time you get to be 25, you've seen 3,000. You've seen every permutation of every dramatic arc. And when somebody takes that and stands it on its head, that can be exciting." David Fincher
