That Was Then, This Is Now (BBC Radio 2, 2004-2008)

I think this is the first radio comedy sketch show that I have listened to. I’m not sure what I am supposed to compare it to or judge it on which standards. The show is presented by Richard Herring, who seems that as per Wikipedia is an established British comedian, but I don’t know anything about him.

The premise of the three season radio show is that it talks about events that happened in the same week in history with a comical angle. Herring has a band that makes up rock songs on certain historical events, sketch shows about historical events, and (fake) guests that discuss other historical events.

It was not funny at all in the beginning, but after a while it grew on me. Herring is a funny personality and I enjoyed him more between the sketches than the actual sketches. I enjoyed his mockery of himself and his show, and would have been better if there were less sketches and more…non sketch fillers, which I guess is a strange criticism to make on a show.
