It's currently at 66%, which is pretty good.

Barring a very weak last act, this is actually a pretty solid genre film, with tightly-wound dialog, intricate visuals and a somewhat believable recreation of how a world would function if run by vampires.

If it were all in the script, why make the film?

A rating! We demand a rating! Judging by your comment, I'd say a solid 4/5.

Daybreakers
(Michael Spierig & Peter Spierig, 2009)
When I realized what the movie was about, I got excited. This is a world that has lost to vampires. They control all of society and the few humans that are remaining are in hiding. The new world is interesting. They have adapted the world to meet their needs, such as having cars that shade out the UV rays in daylight and they harvest humans for their tasty, tasty blood. But alls not well. Human blood is in low supply. And the vampire society has realized that without blood, they turn into bat-like freaky looking monsters.
The evil corporation (exists in both vampires and non-vampires world) has a monopoly on human blood and are using their scientists to find a substitute blood. One of their top scientists is Edward (Ethan Hawke) who is one of those sci-fi dystopian characters that starts out working for the corporation/government but slowly joins the other side, and fights against his bosses. It does sometimes make me uncomfortable. If you are working for a corporation and you don't agree with their policies, you should resign, not receive monthly salary and try to destroy them at the same time. That's shitty work ethics, especially if you are involved in a plot that KILLS your co-workers. That's just not cool, man.
I liked the set-up, but the plot soon felt clichéd. It would have been interesting if they had completely removed the humans, and instead had Edward worry about a vampire world with low blood and freaky looking bat monsters. A movie ONLY about vampires. That would have been cool.

The plot turning into cliche is the film eventually treading the tracks of its genre, though its true that once the novelty of the set up dies out, the film becomes...familiar. Still, I really liked the William Dafoe role and what he does with his situation.

I watched it recently I echo AK sentiment. It is a solid film with a rushed unsatisfying third act. I like the art designs of the new world run by vampires and especially the cars. It was great seeing
Ethan Hawke
in a leading role again after years in the shadow.
Sam Neil
chewing the scenes as the bad guy is load of fun as well. As much as I disliked the way the film concluded, I thought the final battle and how the vampires needs lead to their comeuppance was very interesting, I wish what built to that was much stronger. Over all I liked the film, but did not love it.
