Being Human (BBC, 2008-2009)
IMDB Link

A British TV show about a vampire, a werewolf, and a ghost sharing a house.

Sounds ridiculous and funny, right?

It does, and I figured the people behind the show knew that and that is what they were aiming for, but no. They are taking it seriously, and it is the story of three non-human friends finding out what it means to be human. It involves soul-searching and lots and lots of crying.

Yes, this is the kind of world we live in. You can put a premise like that and the only thing that comes out of it is an excuse to have people hug and cry a lot. The vampire character is YET another vampire that goes against the century old established vampire habit and instead does not want to kill, and has to struggle against it like an addiction. Are we still doing that? When are going get over that shit and bring back some vampires like those guys from John Carpenter’s “Vampires”. Bad ass creatures of the nights that want to kill, not some trendy, hip guy that dislikes the sun (but does not explode in it), wears black, and is quitting his addiction.

The werewolf is the worst. He’s a whiny character who hides in the forest once every month because of his condition and he blames everything in his life on that. Seriously, dude, girls have been using that excuse way before you. Heh heh, high five, men.

The ghost is fully in love with her fiancé but we soon learn that he killed her and is actually a dick. Oh no.

Even more annoying is that they are the kind of monsters that constantly talk about not being human or alive, but really, I don’t see the huge difference. The werewolf guy becomes a wolf once a month for a few hours, rest of the time he can lead a normal life. The vampire guy does not age, but I don’t see how that is the worst thing ever. Yes, he has trouble controlling his addiction, but so do many humans. And the ghost is almost like a normal person (people can see her, and they don’t know she is a ghost) except she can teleport. But instead of going, “woo, we are humans with super powers” they are all whining all the fucking time.

Very odd set of circumstances!

Doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is absurd.
