I don't know how you could have disliked The New World since it is made in the same spirit as The Thin Red Line. Having said that, I think maybe its a good thing you're staying away from TTRL because as much as I love that film, I will admit it is not for all tastes and requires your complete attention.

I second that. I too don't think it for casual viewing. You will have to sink yourself in it and gibe it your fullest attention to appreciate it.

In regards to Think Red Line, I've also tried reading the book two years back, and I couldnt finish it.

And that is the point - the pay off for all your attention is profound. Its not the easiest film to see, but certainly, the reward I get from seeing it (or any Malick film for that matter) is just worth it and I would rather watch his films than any others. His films just annihilate my senses!

Mad, I've never read the book, but I think but I've heard its not very easy to go through. This is the reason I've avoided it as well.

I dont think I understand Terrance Malick films. I find them very tedious and boring to watch. For its time this movie might have been a revelation but it doesnt hold up at all now. It is like a sedated Natural Born Killers, yes Martin Sheen as a loose cannon is great but it just didnt work for me.

Just finished watching Badlands. While it was an interesting piece of cinema, it didn't speak to me the way it is generally described: as poetic, lyrical, etc. Martin Sheen and Sissy Spaceck are wonderful, and the movie does an excellent job of presenting them observed, but with the fairytale-like viewpoint of Spaceck's character. I found the movie disengaging though. It also seemed odd that their killing spree consisted of only 5 people, really. Of course, I say this having being numbed by the likes of Natural Born Killers, which in turn probably owes some to this movie.

Overall, beautiful movie with good performances. But I'm not floored.

My Rating --> 3 of 5
