Cable TV- DTH

I am starting this thread to collect ideas on how to get varied Cable TV, DTH connections at home. I currently have Tata Sky and Nile SAT.  Considering the cost, it’s too much to put in for Orbit, Showtime etc, whereas I heard that lot of people managed to get them free at home.

I got some suggestions on putting a unique Dish which will get you Orbit, Showtime, Hot Bird, Pehla and almost every damn channel FOC. The other solution is to go for an ADSL Receiver. You again don’t pay anything for subscription.

I am not sure which will work better and longer. Are you aware of anything like this?

I am looking for one of those options Vibhu. I am not allowed to install any dishes on the roof of the building and can only avails Orbit, Pehla, Showtime at those ridiculously high prices that DU is offering. Someone did mention about an ADSL receiver which costs 1200dhs as a one time charge and you get all the packages you want, but Im still struggling to find the right person who can offer me that.

Why do you want to move away from Tata Sky and Nile Sat though, those are the cheapest and the best packages available. I would give anything for a Tata Sky package, but alas im not allowed to install a dish in the building.

Let me know if you get any other suggestions which may benefit me. Also if anyone on the forum knows someone who can help with Orbit, Showtime, etc let me know pls.

KT, are you referring to Dreambox? A friend managed to get some funny receiver to catch 200+ channels, using a key decrypter decrypting satellite tv keys every 5 minutes.

KT, I guess we all are on the same track. This is what I understand, there are two options:

First,  you need a special dish and special decoder which decipher satellite channels. But it does not connect directly to Orbit, Pehla or any of those satellites. You need to have multiple dish installed. Eg. A friend of mine has Orbit, Pehla, Hot bird, Nile Sat , Arab Sat all on his roof. Now cables from these dish goes to this special unique dish and that connects to the special receiver. Once this is installed it works hassle free. My friend has got 7 months of free channels without any interruption. Infact the menu is great. Main menu takes you to a screen which will list down all the Satellite which are available for you (Orbit, Showtime, Pehla etc). Chose your satellite and then you get all the channels. The channel listing was more than 400. He had 5 different HBO channels from around the world. And if you are into American sports, you can watch live baseball.

I think I am going to go for this one, because the place I stay already has Orbit, Pehla, Hot bird and ShowTime dish installed. I just need to borrow cables from it and I have got the approval of my landlord. The special dish and receiver expense is coming out to 900 dhs.
Unfortunately this is not going to work for you.

Second option is ADSL, I guess this also works fine but I have to check it running somewhere. It works on the same principle as above, except that it decipher signals coming from your ADSL connection. The expense again is around 1000 dhs or so. There is a future possible expense. Sometimes it stops working after 6 months. That time you have to go and buy a key and feed it in the decoder and it works again for 6 months, 1 year etc. There is no guarantee. This one should work for you. Am sure it will be worth it.

As for Tata Sky, am not getting rid of it. It is extremely good and required and it does not pinch your pocket.

I will work on all this when am back after 2 weeks  but let me know if you find out about the good decoders.

BTW am in Oman and the govt. here does not care about all such installations, I guess UAE has got cracking on all this.

Get me more info on that pls? Cost? What channels? Is it possible with DU? Where to get one from?

I got Dish TV yesterday, and it is quite good. Haven't been able to go through the channels yet, but the missus loves it.

I had Dish TV and absolutely loved it. One of the major disadvantage of moving to an Emaar property is that they dont let you install any dishes. Fuckers.
