Well, the Academy (can we just call them morons, please?) has been pissing on Cannes winners for years - last years winner The Class is also an example. Guess the French and the Americans just don't see eye to eye. I guess everyone is going to trying watching this now (Note to self, still need to see last years winner Departures which has been gathering dust at home for months now).

Glad that Avatar didn't scoop the Oscars, but surprised it got the Best Cinematography award.

Not surprised that a fucking videogame won Best Cinematography. It is the Oscars after all.

The one Oscar that I was really happy about was Michael Giacchino winning for  Up!'s score. That really warmed my heart the most, because I freakin' love that score.

Yes! It was the one I cheered for the most.

No comments from anyone about the hosts? I think the opening by Martin and Baldwin was the funniest in ages.

Martin: "Oh look, it's that damn Helen Mirren."
Baldwin: "Steve, that's DAME Helen Mirren."
Martin: "Oh, sorry!"

First Female Director to win Best Director Award in 82 year Oscar History, now that is an achievement!

I hated the host duo. And the most boring Oscar ceremony of the past few years. None of the speeches were interesting (except Waltz')), no risque outfits, even Stiller was trying too hard.

I never did post this here, so now's as good time as ever.

My company runs an internal Oscar competition for those willing to participate. Apart from predictions, there's a tie-breaker story we need to write. In my case, I never get my predictions right enough to come in the top 3, but my story got a special mention last year. So thought I'd share it with you guys.

Tiebreaker was described on the competition form as -- Strapped for cash, a couple (Mo'Nique and Jeff Bridges) spend the weekend with their wealthy friends (Bullock and Waltz) on their luxury yacht.
Tell us about your movie. Give the 'Title' and 'Genre'; what is it about and how does it end?

My story:

Title: UNDERWATERWORLD
Genre: Fantasy Horror

Strapped for cash, a loving couple (Mo'Nique & Jeff Bridges) receive a timely call from their rich couple friends (Sandra Bullock & Christoph Waltz). After a week of "good ol' time" in their mansion, they decide to spend the weekend on-board their luxury yacht. After enough champagne and in the midst of the night, to their horror, the poor couple discover their rich friends to be were-sharks, creatures that every fortnight, turn into vicious sharks at the smell of salt in the air. In their desperate attempt to survive, the husband falls prey, and is converted into a were-shark himself. As Mo'nique fights for her life in shark-infested water, she eventually blows up everyone using the boat's fuel-tank.

Post-credit sequence: Mo'nique washes ashore with a scratch/gash on left thigh, and teeth that seem sharper than before.
