Secret Diary of a Call Girl (ITV, 2007-2008)IMDB LinkSounds risqué and edgy, but it is basically your typical female show. It is supposed to be based on actual blog of an actual prostitute/escort (although some news article claim the blog was written by a male author) and it is not as interesting as it sounds.
Mainly because the show really tries to glamorize the occupation so much that it has little interest for me. Belle is a high-class escort, usually being shown with rich, attractive men, settings are almost always safe, fun for both parties, and enjoyable. Belle gets to meet charismatic men, have great sex, go to classy adult parties, wear expensive clothes, and get paid a lot. At the same time, Belle’s non-prostitute personality is called Hanna, and the show tries to emphasis how normal Hanna is. All this is like manufactured, packaged, safe product for housewives and girls to gasp about the alternative lifestyle of a woman, but not in a way not to enjoy it. No drugs or being punched in the face here.
The show also breaks the fourth wall a lot and it is really grating after a while. The character playing Belle/Hanna talks to us, trying to be cute, informative, and witty, but frankly, she would just get on my nerves.
