[Can you think of an Indian movie with the protagonist running around in a loincloth and claims to be God and talks barely legibly, most of the supporting actors are malformed beggars who mock themselves and the society in general, with Aghoris and burning pyres of Varanasi are shown in great detail, where death is declared as a punishment for the bad and a boon for the victims, mercy killing is shown on screen, where the background score really touches your heart.

Welcome to tamil film Naan Kadavul, directed by Bala, who has the courage to go against convention and who is one of the most mature directors in the Tamil industry eventhough he has directed only 4 films so far.

Looks delightfully crazy enough to arouse interest.

Have you seen other work by Bala worth recommending that makes this something to look forward to?

Bala's other movies are
1.  Pitamagan (2003) which won Vikram the national award for a totaly de-glamourised role of an autistic graveyard keeper. The movie won all the major filmfare awards (director, actor, actress, supporting actor and actress)
2. Nandha (2001) starring Surya which tells the story of  a juvenile murderer's  return to society
3. Sethu (1999) which propelled Vikram to stardom.

He takes his time between his movies and writes them himself. he is one of the new generation film makers in tamil who shows true passion to the media and not afraid to experiment. I recommend Pitamagan as well

Excellent! I like this *new* New Wave that Indian cinema is going through. Just a handful of Directors now (and a whole bunch of wannabes), but their movies are really worth it.

I shall surely check these movies out (hopefully soon!).
