Testees (FX, 2008)IMDB LinkThe FX network has made one of my favorite running comedies, “It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia”. I heard that they made a new comedy called “Testees”, it had mixed reviews, but hey, maybe lighting will strike twice.
It doesn’t.
“Testees” is amusing and tries to repeat the same tasteless humor of “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”, but they do not succeed. Because even tasteless, deprived, boundary-breaking comedy needs skill and talent. The premise is that Peter and Ron work as human test subjects for a product testing facility, and every week, they experience the effects of a different drug.
Examples as follows. They get a pill that gives them a gender change. They get a pill that makes them go blind. They get to test a super glue and Peter’s face is stuck to Ron’s episode for all the episode. You get the idea.
It is possible that the show will improve in the second season, because I do find the premise fun. They just need to make the jokes funnier and the secondary characters funnier. Peter and Ron are barely interesting themselves but the secondary characters are rubbish. It’s the secondary characters that generally makes a comedy show! So work on that, guys.
