Some good director-actor-actor combination this is.
Variety reports that
David O. Russell
and
Christian Bale
have joined
Mark Wahlberg
in
The Fighter
. The movie was earlier to be directed by
Darren Aronofsky
who dropped out.
Synopsis
: The movie is a drama about boxer Irish Mickey Ward (
Wahlberg
) and his unlikely path to become world lightweight champion.
Bale
plays Dicky Eklund, Mickey's half-brother and a talented fighter who once went the distance with Sugar Ray Leonard in a title fight but then turned to crime and landed in prison. Then he turned his life around and helped his underperforming brother find the spark for a remarkable run that led to the world title.

what a shame.another director has gone hollywood,he is also doing some romantic comedy over FOX.and you want me to believe that Bale is Wahlberg's half brother? nigga please!!!!.the way Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale been choosing safe mainstream male macho movies is completely sickening.
can't wait for the youtube vidoes of O.Russell and Bale shouting at each other on the set.

By the time you get to be 25, you've seen 3,000. You've seen every permutation of every dramatic arc. And when somebody takes that and stands it on its head, that can be exciting."

Bale
is at it again, losing crazy weight for the role.

I love Marky Mark. Add Bale and Adams with the director of
3 Kings
and I'm sold on this one.

Two things:
1) The cinematography by Hoyte Van Hoytema (LET THE RIGHT ONE IN) looks organic and beautiful
2) Amy Adams aka Mrs. Madali = HOT HOT HOT!

Can't wait! Funny how I hope for a DIFF screening for every possibly good movie releasing in the second half of the year.

It is a good trailer, but disappoint in one place; not much
Christian Bale
, even though he transformed into Oscar bait mode (he adopted
The Machinist
look+a bold spot). But of all seriousness,
Christian Bale
is overdue for an Oscar.

Lets just cut the Bale Oscar rhetoric - we all know he deserved it for roles he has done, perhaps many he will do. We also know that the Academy is unfair, archaic and blind. Bale gets second billing to Wahlberg and this is technical his film to lead, which the trailer also seems to reflect.

Agree with Fizz completely. There are many actors out there who deserve their Oscar as much as,if not more than,
Bale
.
Edward Norton, Viggo Mortensen, Mickey Rourke, Brad Pitt
.
Even with top billing going to
Wahlberg
,
Bale
probably will get a better shot at "stealing the show". I like how the dude chooses roles that aren't lead.

After starring in films such as TERMINATOR: RISE OF THE MACHINES, it's time for Bale to redeem himself.
