yes it's entertaining and yes it's something you should watch in cinema but it's easily forgettable and the special effects are cheap....Evil Dead 2  special effects arguably are better.

"There's this whole school of thought that movies are always so great when you're 10 or 12 years old, and the reality of it is, when you're 10 or 12 years old, you've only seen 100 stories. By the time you get to be 25, you've seen 3,000. You've seen every permutation of every dramatic arc. And when somebody takes that and stands it on its head, that can be exciting." David Fincher

How can you say Yawns? It is the most vivid fun ride in cinema all year round, and certainly has "0" dull moments. It might be forgettable for you but I honestly can't wait to I see it again. As for your bold statement about the visual effects, I think it was deliberate choice from Raimi to make it somewhat campy, and even though I haven't seen Evil Dead 2 yet but I find it hard to believe what you said. I have seen Army of Darkness which came out years after that and the effects weren't better than in Drag Me To Hell.

Drag Me To Hell (Sam Raimi, 2009)

Ahh, so Sam Riami is back to doing horror. It is a decent movie, with some skill behind it, but Sam Riami is too famous and too experienced to do some of the gross-out horror elements that he does in this movie. Doing it in his early movies was fine, because the movies were cheap and Riami was young. But the sort of things he does here is a bit embarrassing, like the constant “ewwww” moments that seem to be aimed at female teen audiences.

But I think one thing that annoys me about the movie, well, not really about the movie, but more about Sam Riami’s views on his own movie. I don’t want to spoil the movie for you, but he considers it a sort of morality tale, that the woman had it all coming to her, like it was her own fault in a way. All the woman Christine (Alison Lohman) does is deny a bank customer (an old gypsy woman) an extension on her mortgage payments, even though the bank has extended it twice already. Sam RIami acts like this is a sin of greed, so anything bad that happens to her in the movie is, in a way, her fault. This is something I do not agree with, and it almost feels like Riami doesn’t understand his own movie! Plus, Alison Lohman is really cute! She’s a bit like Jenna Fischer and Amy Adams, two women that I already love! But I have a bit heart, so Alison Lohman can also have my love too.

3/5

ak
Quote
TDK -- it was in Top 3, now has dropped. Will decline further.

Was going through the thread and noticed this exchange between shariq and ak. at the time of that quote, TDK was at 7. Now its 10. So was Shariq right or AK? AK was right in the sense that it did drop, but even 10 is still impressive
