Insomnia (1997)
A great film. Perfectly crafted, it moves like a killer. "Insomnia" is a police procedural and character study; it is about how conditioned morality can quickly disappear under duress, and what happens when precepts of good are challenged by the underbelly of man's primal nature. An intricate police procedural, "Insomnia" is actually a pyschological drama about repressed sexuality and the power of violence. Offers a hero afflicted by personal demons, one of the most complex characters created for the screen, depraved but always human. Stellan Skaarsgard is just great! The film is a mean mood piece that reminds us how good "Se7en" is and why the crime genre may never wear us out. Remade in 2002 by Chris Nolan. ak

If it were all in the script, why make the film?
